The "General" Minority: The so-called "Forward Castes" or General Category are now often less than 15-20% of the population in many regions. The Logical Paradox: If 85% of the people are "Reserved" and control the majority of political power and seats... Then Reservation is no longer about "protecting a weak minority." It has mathematically become "Majoritarian Rule." The Reality: In a democracy, the Majority usually rules. Governments change — whether it is the Bharatiya Janata Party or the Indian National Congress — but the policies often feel the same. Fee waivers, age relaxations, lower cut-offs, free coaching schemes — most benefits seem structured around caste categories. No one denies the historical injustices faced by SC, ST, and OBC communities. Social justice is necessary. But what about a poor student from the general category who studies under the same broken roof, faces the same financial struggles, and dreams just as big? Poverty does not ask for caste before entering a house. EWS reservation was introduced as hope, but many feel it remains limited — without equal relaxation in age, without significant fee reduction, and without strong institutional support. It often feels like a symbolic consolation rather than real empowerment. This is not about taking away someone else’s rights. It is about asking for fairness. It is about saying that economic hardship deserves recognition too. When a student cannot afford exam fees or loses opportunities because of age limits while struggling financially, the pain is real. True equality should uplift every deserving citizen — not divide hardship into categories. Support should reach every needy student, regardless of caste. Justice must be inclusive, not selective.
