SHUn nouvel arrivant qui rejoint mon petit groupe de Geosesarma Hagen ( crabe vampire ) 😍😍
Les crabes vampires du diable rouge sont des crustacés décapodes faisant partie du Brachyura. Ce sont des crabes d’eau douce vivant sur terre, originaires des zones tropicales et endémiques d’Indonésie. Comme tous les autres crabes, ils ont une carapace, deux chelae et dix pattes articulées. Ils sont omnivores.

AQLepidothelphusa menneri - absoluter Liebling im Aqua-Terrarium / Paludarium. So schöne kräftige Farben und niedliches Verhalten 😍
Hauptsächlich die kleinen der Art Geosesarma werden als Vampirkrabben bezeichnet, aber auch diese hier obwohl Lepidothelphusa menneri wird aufgrund der großen Ähnlichkeit so bezeichnet.
Die Tiere brauchen ein Terrarium mit gutem Wasserteil bzw. Aquarium mit gutem Landteil. Sie sind ein wenig öfter im Wasser anzutreffen als andere Vampirkrabben.

Species: #LepidothelphusaMenneri > Previously > #LepidothelphusaSp. “Blue Borneo” / "Tricolor" is a species of small crabs, native to Borneo. #Lepidothelphusa species are not fully aquatic; they are semi-terrestrial crabs. They spend most of their time on moist land, but also often submerges in freshwater. According to their habitat,they need higher humidity than #Geosesarma species to thrive. While 𝐺𝑒𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑎 species need 80% of land : 20% of water; 𝐿𝑒𝑝𝑖𝑑𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝ℎ𝑢𝑠𝑎 species need 50:50.
Average size (Carapace width) of the adult species is slightly smaller than 𝐺𝑒𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑎 species; is only about 1.2-1.8 cm. Female has smaller pincers. The species can be classified as an omnivorous scavenger. They will eat any food they manage to find around the tank. Primary feed should contain protein at least 30% and a little calcium for their shell. These crabs are primarily nocturnal with average lifespan of 1-2 years.

Unlike most crabs, they don’t live fully underwater.
🔬 Biology & facts:
• Genus Geosesarma originates from Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand).
• They belong to freshwater–terrestrial crabs that spend most of their life on land, close to water.
• They breathe mainly through modified gills that must stay moist — which is why high humidity is essential.
• They do not have a planktonic larval stage like marine crabs. Females carry eggs until fully developed miniature crabs hatch.
• This direct development allows them to live far from open water and streams.
• Typical adult size is 2–3 cm, but their behavior is complex and highly territorial.
• Optimal conditions: 24–28 °C, high humidity, shallow water access, plenty of hiding places.
Geosesarma aren’t just decorative animals —
they are a perfect example of evolution adapting life between water and land.

Na rozdíl od většiny krabů nežijí plně pod vodou.
🔬 Biologie a ověřená fakta:
• Rod Geosesarma pochází z jihovýchodní Asie (Indonésie, Malajsie, Thajsko).
• Patří mezi sladkovodní suchozemské kraby, kteří tráví většinu života na souši, v blízkosti vody.
• Dýchají pomocí upravených žaber, která musí zůstat vlhká – proto je klíčová vysoká vlhkost vzduchu.
• Nemají larvální planktonní stádium jako mořští krabi. Samice nosí vajíčka až do vylíhnutí plně vyvinutých mini-krabíků.
• Díky přímému vývoji mohou žít daleko od řek a otevřené vody.
• Dospělci dorůstají obvykle 2–3 cm, ale chováním jsou velmi aktivní a teritoriální.
• Ideální podmínky: 24–28 °C, vysoká vlhkost, mělká voda a dostatek úkrytů.
Geosesarma nejsou jen „hezká zvířátka“.
