If you eat healthy but still feel off—this might hit home. We don’t always realize it, but our bodies can’t tell the difference between real danger and everyday stress. So even if there’s no bear chasing you… your nervous system might still be in survival mode. And when that happens, digestion shuts down. So your gut can’t break down food properly, and that can cause inflammation that travels everywhere, even to your brain. Yep, fogginess, mood issues, energy dips… it’s all connected. 🧠 The good news? You can support your brain by supporting your gut—and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Follow for more tips that make your brain feel like itself again. #brainbalance #guthealth #mentalhealthawareness #mindbodyconnection #gutbrainaxis #wellnessjourney

As a board-certified psychiatrist, I’m always struck by this: people with depression are typically barred from donating stool for fecal microbiota transplants (FMT). FMT transfers healthy gut bacteria to treat infections like recurrent C. diff, but donors undergo strict screening that excludes major depression. Why? Because the gut-brain axis is real and backed by solid science. Trillions of gut microbes influence mood, anxiety, and brain function through nerves, hormones, and immune pathways. Dysbiosis (imbalanced bacteria) is linked to depression, and studies show transplanting microbiota from depressed people into animals can trigger depressive behaviors. That’s why “unhealthy” microbial profiles are avoided in donors. It’s surprising to most that poop could impact mental health this way—but the evidence is growing fast. Your gut really is a second brain! Support it with diet, probiotics, and lifestyle changes alongside treatment. Mind-blowing connection, right? #GutBrainAxis #Microbiome #MentalHealth #PsychiatryFacts

🧠 Comment “MICROBIOME” and I’ll DM you the video breaking down how certain probiotics may support brain health and slow neurodegeneration. Research shows the brain has its own bacterial ecosystem. Certain bacteria, like Akkermansia and Lactobacillus plantarum, stand out. A specific probiotic called PS128 has been shown to raise beneficial levels and may slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease. Here’s why this matters ⤵️ ✅ Highlights the gut brain connection ✅ Shows how probiotics may support neurodegeneration treatments ✅ Points to what future therapies could discover ▶️ Want the simplified science? Your gut and brain are constantly communicating through the gut-brain axis. About 90% of serotonin — your feel-good neurotransmitter — is produced in the gut. When the gut is inflamed or out of balance, those messages shift. That can show up as anxiety, irritability, or brain fog — even when life feels “fine.” This doesn’t mean your mood is broken. It means your gut is asking for support. And when you support the gut, the nervous system often relaxes — and your mood follows. 👉Follow for science-backed, food-first gut health. Your body whispers long before it screams. Most people wait for pain to act, but physiology is constantly sending subtle signals that something is off, often weeks or months before a diagnosable problem appears. If you learn to read these cues, you gain a powerful early-warning system that medicine alone cannot replace. From a biological standpoint, many of these “small” signs reflect deeper metabolic imbalances. White spots on nails often correlate with disrupted zinc-dependent enzyme activity, which also affects immunity and wound healing. Chronic bloating is rarely just food, it often reflects an imbalanced gut microbiome that can influence inflammation, mood, and even brain function through the gut-brain axis. Persistent itching can signal a backlog of toxins that your liver or kidneys are struggling to process efficiently. Dizziness frequently links to low blood pressure, anemia, or poor hydration, all of which reduce oxygen delivery to your brain. Cold hands and feet are classic markers of impaired circulation or thyroid slowdown, both of which regulate your body temperature and energy. Dark under-eye circles are not just lack of sleep, they can indicate iron deficiency, which directly impacts oxygen transport in your blood. What you do daily truly shapes these signals. Prioritize whole foods rich in zinc, magnesium, iron, and omega-3s instead of relying on supplements first. Stay consistently hydrated rather than chugging water sporadically. Protect your gut with fiber, fermented foods, and lower ultra-processed intake. Move your body regularly to improve circulation and insulin sensitivity. Sleep seven to nine hours to allow hormonal and neurological repair. If symptoms persist, treat them as data, not annoyance, and get proper testing rather than guessing. Your body is not broken, it is communicating. When you listen early, you prevent problems later. Pay attention, respond wisely, and your health becomes something you actively guide instead of something you constantly chase. #humanbody #preventivehealth #gutbrainaxis #micronutrients #metabolichealth

If you’re bloated all the time and diet changes aren’t helping, the cause might be originating from your brain 🧠 For years, I dealt with constant bloating, constipation, and hormonal issues despite eating clean. I tried every elimination diet and gut protocol out there. Nothing worked long-term because I was missing the root cause. Here’s what changed everything: I learned that when you’re living in chronic stress, your nervous system shifts into survival mode. This literally shuts down proper digestion and disrupts your gut microbiome. Your brain and gut are in constant communication through the vagus nerve 🧬 When your nervous system feels unsafe, it prioritizes survival over healing - meaning your digestive fire gets dampened and inflammation takes over. The solution isn’t another restrictive diet. It’s calming the stress signals coming from your nervous system through heart coherence ❤️💌❤️‍🔥 When your heart rhythms become smooth and regulated, they send calming signals directly to your gut through the vagus nerve. You can literally change your physiology and digestive function through your breath and heart rhythms 🧠🫁❤️ These are the practices that fixed my digestive issues: ❤️ Heart-Gut Alignment practice (breathe into both your heart and gut simultaneously) ☕️ Drinking warm ginger tea to support digestive fire 🍴 Eating slowly and mindfully to activate rest-and-digest mode 🧘‍♀️ Gentle movement and stretching to soothe your nervous system 🥬 Supporting your microbiome with quality probiotics and fiber-rich foods I practice heart coherence daily now, and it’s been one of the biggest turning points in my healing journey. I walk through all of these practices and the science behind them in my book, The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts, available now in paperback at the link in my bio ☺️📖 Comment “COHERENCE” below if you want to learn about my detox & nourish guide to healing your gut through your nervous system ❤️ #heartcoherence #gutbrainaxis #digestionsupport #holistichealthandwellness #bloatingremedy

My mother struggled with her weight her entire life. And her biggest fear was that I would too. Every time we shopped together, we ended up at Lane Bryant. And every time she’d say “Amy, you never want to have to shop in here.” Not because of the clothes weren’t pretty. But because it represented a body she felt trapped in. A version of herself she never wanted for me. Less than a decade later — Lane Bryant was my store too. That moment broke something open in me. Because I realized if I didn’t change something … not next Monday, not after the holidays, I was going to spend the next 30 years fighting the same battle she never won. Avoiding mirrors. Dreading photos. Feeling invisible in rooms I used to own. Watching my energy disappear year by year. Losing my confidence and living as a shadow to the women I know I truly am. The longer you wait, the harder it gets. Midlife hormones don’t pause while you get ready. I stopped waiting. I stopped restarting. At 47, I built a system that actually worked with my body, hormones, real life, and all of it. 28 pounds. Four pant sizes. My energy back. A body I’m happily living in at 50. Every shift, every lesson, every breakthrough is inside my 195-page FLY Fitness Guide. When you’re ready to end the generational cycle comment FLY and I’ll personally send it to you. Let's explore emotional eating. Every time you're stressed, lonely, overwhelmed, or anxious, your nervous system will reach for what worked for you when you were a child. This is called the inner child wound. And it shows up as: Eating when you're not hungry but you're bored or sad. Feeling out of control around certain foods. Eating in secret or feeling shame after eating. Using food to celebrate, punish, or numb yourself. If you catch yourself in this loop, try and do these 3 things: 1. Before you reach for food outside a meal, pause and ask: "Am I physically hungry or am I feeling something?" You don't have to stop eating. Just name the emotion first. Awareness interrupts the automatic loop you get stuck in. 2. Find the feeling under the craving. Cravings are almost always a disguised emotion. Sweet cravings are often loneliness or a need for comfort. Salty/crunchy cravings are often anger or frustration. Sit with the feeling for some time. 3. Instead of telling yourself to "have more willpower", ask: "What did I actually need in that moment as a child?" Probably - Safety. Comfort. To be seen. Then find one way to give that to yourself in a way that is not linked to food. A walk. A call to someone close to you. A massage. I often encourage our clients to work on their emotional wounds once they have progressed in healing themselves physically. Because healing is always complete when both mind and body are healed together.
