I understand that my page isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. Some people may be here for a season, when it offers education, validation, or comfort and then choose to move on. Others may stay longer, or simply remain as support along my healing journey, and I’m grateful for all of that. What I never want is for anyone to feel obligated to stay if this space no longer serves them. What is certain is that I will continue sharing my lived experience, along with education and awareness, because it matters, to me and to others walking similar paths. Sharing is part of how I heal, how I make sense of what I’ve lived through, and how I hope to help someone else feel less alone. This space exists for that purpose, and I’ll continue to honor it in the way that feels true to me. #throatcancer #headandneckcancer #cancersurvivor

Sharing some personal news…I’ve been sporting a bandaid the past two weeks after my Dermatologist @grossmandermatology biopsied a weird spot on my temple…turns out it was a Basal Cell Carcinoma. I was kind of in shock when I got the news because I’ve always been so good about protecting my skin. I will need to have what’s called a moh’s surgery to remove the lesion. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation: “Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer and the most frequently occurring form of all cancers. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 3.6 million cases are diagnosed each year. BCCs arise from abnormal, uncontrolled growth of basal cells. Because BCCs grow slowly, most are curable and cause minimal damage when caught and treated early.” Let this be a reminder to get your skin checked, the patch I had on my temple, had been there for about a year. I thought it was just a dry patch... from here on out I’ll need to go in every six months to have my body checked as once you produce a basal cell. It’s likely you will produce another one. - #BCC #BasalCellCarcinoma #SkinCancer #HeadandNeckCancer #skinchecksavelives

Fellow Head & Neck Cancer survivors, I need your help. 🌟 I’m so honored to be creating a magnificent piece of art for the Head & Neck Cancer Living Foundation's event, "Masks for Aid." Initially, I took on this project to help ease my own cancer battle trauma. But as I read through your comments on previous posts, I quickly realized that this project is so much bigger than just my own healing. If you're a head and neck cancer survivor, could you send me a couple of sentences to include in the artwork that will inspire, give strength, and share hope with others? 💪 I’d love to use your first name and the type of cancer you had, along with your words. Of course, I need your permission, so if you could just say that I have it, that would be wonderful. I know the road we’ve all traveled with this beast has been treacherous and life-changing, but I also know it’s given me some tremendous gifts in return. I believe the hope, love, and strength we've gained can be shared with others who are walking similar or even different paths. You can leave your message here as a comment or send me a direct message. Thank you all so much for your help! Big hugs and much love! ❤️ Wyanne#masksforaid2023 #masksforaid #headandneckcancerawareness #headandneckcancersucks #headandneckcancer #healingart #artinspiration #artheals #tonguecancersurvivor #spreadinghope #wyanne #wyannethompson

April is Oral Cancer@Awareness Month. Submandibular gland tumors are rare, but here’s the part you don’t want to miss, about 50% are malignant, making them far more concerning than parotid tumors. Overall salivary gland cancers occur at a rate of about 1.3 per 100,000 people, with submandibular gland cancers representing only 5 to 15% of those cases, yet carrying a significantly higher risk of malignancy. The average 5-year survival rate sits around 60 to 67%, and drops as the disease progresses. The most common malignancy you’ll see here is adenoid cystic carcinoma, known for slow growth but aggressive features like perineural invasion and recurrence. As a clinician, this is your reminder, a firm mass in the submandibular region should never be brushed off. Early recognition and referral can directly impact patient outcomes. Teaching students the importance of this technique is so important. #DentalHygiene #DentalStudents #OralPathology #FutureRDH #HeadAndNeckCancer Reference (APA 7th edition): Ellington, C. Head and neck cancers often go unnoticed in their early stages, but being aware of the risk factors and symptoms can make all the difference. Tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, HPV infection, and prolonged sun exposure are some of the leading causes. Watch out for warning signs like persistent sore throat, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, mouth ulcers that don’t heal, unexplained lumps, or swelling in the neck. Early detection and timely treatment greatly improve outcomes, so don’t ignore the signs—your health deserves attention. #ManipalHospitalBaner #YourManipal #LifesOn #HeadAndNeckCancer #CancerAwareness #CancerPrevention #OncologyCare
