Should you trust influencers? Probably not lol. In another version of this kind of study, researchers analysed posts from popular Australian nutrition influencers. They found that approximately half the posts contained information inaccuracies. And close to a quarter of posts contained “completely inaccurate” or “mostly inaccurate” information. Unfortunately, this is similar to other research studies on this topic, showing that social media health, fitness, nutrition and weight loss information on social media is a bit of a minefield. Funnily enough, in this study they also noted that posts they had BETTER engagement were more likely to be of WORSE quality. Which is something I say time and time again. It is much easier to make catchy viral videos if you don’t let yourself get bogged down with that pesky thing called intellectual honesty lol. Obviously, this doesn’t mean ALL influencers are terrible. Technically I am one after all, even though that term makes me vomit in my mouth a little. But it does mean you should be careful of who you trust. P.S. In the past few months, I’ve had more medical tests than in the past few years! Many were unrelated or routine, like my seventh colonoscopy, but one ultrasound revealed unexpected findings that led to more tests. From my jaw to my abdomen, I’ve been scanned and biopsied all over. So far, nothing seems terribly wrong—just a few things to keep an eye on. I was relieved that my uterine biopsy came back fine, but today I got a call saying my pap smear was abnormal, so I need another test. Adding to the stress, my pup had a tumor, and we went through his surgery and recovery. My eldest is also undergoing medical tests, which can be overwhelming for a mom. On top of this, I just recovered from COVID, leaving me in a poor headspace to receive more testing news. At nearly 61, I realize I can’t wait for medical test results to feel good. If it’s not one thing, it’s another, and in the meantime, life goes on. Worrying won’t change the outcome. Just as when I traveled to California, I’ve chosen to park my worry until my next test in a couple of weeks. Working out, meditating, journaling, sharing, and practicing yoga ground me and prevent rumination. Work helps me focus and stop intrusive thoughts. Receiving feedback from women who’ve gone through the same tests is incredibly reassuring, so thank you. I hope this helps you know you’re not alone and that staying on top of our health is essential, especially as we age. How do you cope with health uncertainty? 🍳When people are told to randomly cut dairy, eggs, paneer and chicken, what often happens is: 🔻Their protein intake drops drastically. 🥲And then their meals become carb heavy - more roti, rice, biscuits, namkeen, sweets, processed snacks. 😳Which ironically worsens fatty liver risk. 🫠Fatty liver is often misunderstood. 🍳Many people think fatty liver happens because someone ate too much fat - non veg or dairy. But that’s not the case. The liver accumulates fat mainly due to: - Excess refined carbohydrates - Frequent sugar intake - Ultra-processed foods - Fructose heavy diets (sweet drinks, packaged foods) - Overall calorie excess - Sedentary lifestyle 🥚Not because someone had 2 eggs or paneer in their meal. ❤️In fact, the liver is one of the most regenerative organs in the body. ❤️It constantly repairs and renews itself. 🤝But for that regeneration to happen, the body needs adequate protein. ✅Yes, excessive oils and deep fried foods should still be limited.
