Let’s clear something up. Homesteading does not mean being a housewife. It’s a way of life. What does being a housewife even mean? That you stay home, keep the house clean and make sure there’s dinner on the table for your husband when he gets home from work? You go for brunch with your friends, do yoga and get an $8 coffee on the way home. I must be doing it wrong then. Because when I’m on shift and I get home from work, I still need to make dinner and I still need to keep the house clean. None of that stuff is homesteading. Growing and raising your own food , preserving your harvests for the winter, splitting wood so your house is warm and cooking the majority of your food from scratch is not being a housewife. Not in 2025, anyway. (Or at least from my perspective) When we look back 100 years, the role of a woman was so incredibly different and also very important for the family dynamic. Everything I just said was what women did. Our grandmas did that and our grandmas, grandmas did that. And somewhere along the way it all went to sh*t. We got away from the wholesome life homesteading provides and got wrapped up in this convenience driven way of living. Where being a “housewife” now means something completely different. I look back at my Oma and the other really amazing grandmas who I’ve met and some that I didn’t get the chance to meet and it’s truly astounding the amount of work they did and what they contributed to their family. Perhaps now we can see the difference between what being a housewife and a homesteader are and aspire to be more like our grandmas were. #homemade #homestead #homesteading #homesteader #homesteaders #homesteadinglife #homesteadinglifestyle #homesteadingfamily #homesteadersofinstagram #homesteadlife #homesteadliving

Back in 2022, we took a leap of faith and bought 12.5 acres in the country here in Kentucky, without a single clue how we were going to build our forever home. We simply placed it in God’s hands and trusted the path ahead. Fast forward to 2025, and here we are living on our homestead as a retired military family, building a life rooted in faith, hard work, and simplicity. We’re not experts in farming or homesteading by any means, but both my husband and I grew up in the country and brought with us a lifetime of skills, lessons, and values passed down through our families. We’re learning as we go, growing what we can, and working toward becoming more self-sufficient every season. You might even find us popping up at a farmer’s market or two someday, sharing the bounty God provides with our community. This space is about slow living, stewardship, faith, encouragement, and doing the best we can with what we’ve been given. I won’t be posting all day every day because I’m not here to be a homestead influencer, but I will be here to share wisdom, lessons learned, encouragement, and faith along the way. If you’re longing for a simpler life, working toward self-sufficiency, or already living it you’re in the right place. 🤍 Thanks for being here with us. Drop a comment below and tell me a little about yourself so we can build a like-minded, faith-filled community together. #homesteadlife #homesteadliving #modernhomesteading #homesteadinprogress #countryliving #simpleliving #slowliving #rurallife #backtotheland #selfsufficientliving #faithfilled #homesteadjourney #buildingourdream #simplejoys #growwhereyoureplanted #kentuckyhome #wildblackberryacres

There’s something about a fall garden harvest that grounds me in a way nothing else does. The tomatoes are coming in strong with a second wave, the peppers are bursting with color, and as I move through the beds gathering what the season has given… I’m reminded that this space gives me so much more than food. It gives me peace. 🌿 A quiet sanctuary to slow down, breathe, and watch life unfold right in front of me. There’s healing in tending, beauty in the waiting, and fulfillment in the work. The garden feeds more than our family — it feeds the soul #FallGarden #HomesteadLiving #HarvestSeason #GardenSanctuary #TomatoHarvest #PepperHarvest #FallInTheGarden #SimpleLiving #HomegrownGoodness #PeacefulLiving #GrowYourOwnFood #GardenInspiration #MindfulLiving #FallHomestead

Sheep have some incredible advantages over other livestock when it comes to producing meat on a home scale. Their small size makes them easy to handle with little to no infrastructure. And they’re much safer to handle, and have around kids that big livestock. They can be kept on much smaller acreages than larger livestock. They can also graze steeper hills or in densely forested areas with ease. High protein forbs are an essential part of their diet so they love love love to eat up pesky weeds and less desirable forage that cows or horses might turn their nose to. They can be raised entirely on pasture, without any expensive grain inputs. Lambs can reach slaughter weight as early as 6 months, so they can be fed entirely on pasture. If slaughtered in the fall, they don’t need to be kept and fed on hay over the winter months which increases costs. You also get a lovely hide from each lamb come processing, that you can tan and turn into rugs, clothing, etc! Ewes typically have twins, so your flock can more than double every year. Because they are tri purpose they make the perfect homestead animal as well, not only can they produce meat, they can also produce milk and wool. Their milk is high in fat and vitamins, and has a sweet subtle taste. And for smaller families that can’t keep up with the milk production of a cow a couple milk ewes is a great option! Their wool is one of the best natural fibers out there and you get one or two “crops” of wool from them every year. Their wool is water resistent and super insulative so they need little to no shelter, they wear it on their backs! This keeps costs down! Our sheep are Icelandic sheep which are the perfect hardy breed for our cold climate here in Montana, but there are lots of excellent breeds out there that have been developed to thrive in other environments. #icelandicsheep #sheep #homesteadanimals #homesteadliving #montana

My entire garden is a tribute to my Memère. Reflecting back on time spent at their farm as a kid, I realize now just how massive of a garden she maintained. My aunts and great-aunts always talk about what an incredible gardener she was—especially when it came to growing flowers. When I’m in my garden, I feel connected to her. Connected to my roots. Connected to this land. She speaks to me out there. She visits me often, and I just know she loves the gardens as much as I do. She tells me so every time I’m surrounded by butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. Growing a garden has been a spiritual experience. It’s changed me in ways I never imagined. I encourage you to give it a try for yourself. I can’t wait for it to do the same for you. 🫶 #GardenTribute #MemereLove #HomesteadGarden #BackyardGardening #GardenConnection #SpiritualGardening #ButterflyGarden #BeeFriendly #HummingbirdGarden #HomesteadLiving #GardenWithHeart #GrowYourRoots #HomesteadLifestyle #GardenLove

You love 2 second clips of carefully selected, clean spaces put together with pretty music 🎶🤌🏼 I’ve been getting a lot of “your life looks so perfect” messages lately (I do take the compliment, I promise😉) so I had to do another of these reels and show the flip side of living in an unfinished house with 3 busy little kids and limited time and resources. I think most people have places in their home and yard that are not exactly film worthy, so enjoy feeling better about yourselves at my expense 😅✨ #homedecor #englishcountrycottage #cottagecore #homesteadliving #homesteadlife #homesteadmama #countryliving #instagramvsreality #unfittedkitchen #decorinspo
