Electrolyte drink recipe⬇️ Skip the blue 1, artificial flavors, and mystery ingredients. You don’t need that to support your body’s hydration. You need simple ingredients to make a real electrolyte drink. Water, citrus, baking soda, salt, and honey! That’s it. Seriously, go read the ingredients on these “hydration” drinks…it’s scary. And to think, these drinks are handed out like candy at kids’ sports games to keep them hydrated during exercise 😵 Wild how they have trained us hydration comes from a plastic bottle or a mystery bottle on the shelf. NOPE! Here is a simple recipe I make, especially iced in the summers…SO GOOD! 3 cups water 1 orange, juiced 1 lemon, juiced (you can do either or like 2 oranges or 2 lemons or mix and match. I even do limes a lot) 1/8 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons honey Combine and shake! I always sprinkle more salt in as it cuts through the bitterness of the citrus, but test this and adjust to your taste! It tastes like an orange popsicle to me. So good when you are wanting a refreshing drink and water is not cutting it! The citrus adds potassium and minerals that help support hydration and electrolyte balance. Baking soda can help detox while supporting fluid balance. Sea salt replaces sodium and trace minerals that are lost through sweat and helps your body hold onto water properly. And raw honey adds a small amount of natural glucose that helps your intestines absorb the electrolytes more efficiently. Let me know what you think! #homesteadlife #homesteadinglife

Homestead wisdom⬇️ I never wear outside shoes around my house, ever. And I always ask anyone who comes over if they would remove their shoes at the mat too. When I did this the other day, I thought about how this was a rule growing up. I am either barefoot or wearing my sheep slippers inside the house. I actually rarely ever do socks. So I really don’t want gas station floor, chicken coop muck, or whatever mystery in my living space 😂 I do go barefoot in the grass or garden then come inside but somehow that doesn’t bother me. Isn’t a gas station parking lot lol. Then when it was sunny, I instinctively opened the window towards the sun and remembered the downstairs window above my toy box growing up that was open on sunny days. It also faced the sun. I also have returned to hanging up my clothes to dry on a clothesline in the spring-fall. I also just shake out and hang up my linens and blankets on sunny days, even in the winter as the sun naturally removes odors and the breeze helps breathe life into whatever I put up. We used to drape blankets and rugs over the deck rails on sunny summer days to air them out. Seriously, I feel like doing this brings life into whatever you have out in the sun and breeze. I do my best to clean up the kitchen every night. If I don’t wipe everything down, I at least try to do all of the dishes in the sink because waking up to a clean kitchen is a great way to start the day! It’s a noticeable difference for how I feel, and now I know why my mom did that (and still does.) It’s interesting these little things that carry on or pop up later. I think there is wisdom in the previous generations and a lot of it has been lost to convenience. Preserving food, cooking from scratch, sewing clothes, even learning to source food locally! When all of these things used to be the norm… I used to wonder how the previous generations got so bamboozled and off course like tricked into using crisco instead of lard…it boils down to convenience and not understanding why our ancestors did the things they did. Don’t forget the little things. They add up. What would you add? #homesteadlife #homesteadinglife

Don’t spray your dandelions! It starts at the top with our food system and even trickles down into our yards where we have been taught to rid of the dandelion. What if it is abundant for a God-given beautiful reason?! Like all of its amazing health benefits… The leaves are naturally rich in vitamins A, C, and K and act as a gentle diuretic to support fluid balance and kidney function, the root has traditionally been used to support liver health and digestion by stimulating bile flow and acting as a mild prebiotic for gut bacteria, and the bright yellow flowers contain antioxidants that help combat oxidative stress while also supporting skin health when infused into oils or teas. I love making dandelion from the flowers! All from my dandelions that grow free…and are spray free. Shake the hand that feeds you. Ask farmers how they grow, raise, and manage their land. When you know the methods, there’s no mystery. And if you don’t have options nearby, the internet makes it possible to source directly from farmers who are doing things with integrity. They’re out there. You just have to look. Anonymous grocery store food grown by who-knows-how? That’s losing its appeal. Knowing your farmer, knowing the soil, knowing the practices? That’s the future. Yes, it can cost more. I see that extra money as a deposit into my long-term health. An investment in clean food, resilient land, and people who care about what they’re producing. That feels worth it to me. Completely worth it. And the unexpected bonus? Community. When you really dig into what certain practices are doing to the soil and the ecosystem, it’s hard not to notice the impact. We talk about declining bee and pollinator populations like it’s some great mystery. But when you actually look at the inputs being used… it doesn’t feel so mysterious anymore. If it’s harming pollinators, what do you think it’s doing inside our own bodies? And when something needs a legal “order of protection” around it… that alone should raise questions. Just something to think about, ya know? #homesteadlife #homesteadinglife

I used to think living meant “doing it all” but as I settle more into this life, I realize living is about savouring the slower moments. The moments not everyone gets to experience. Like hanging the clothes on the line. The sound of fresh bread crackling on a rack as it cools. Chasing the ducks back home The kids riding their dirt bikes past the kitchen window The view of the sunrise from my bed And sitting down to dinner every night with the kids For me, these moments mean I’m truly living. Willow rods are hard to find near us. And just like so many things I want to do, it would have been too expensive to buy enough to make our living willow fence. But we can put in the time and work ourselves and get there eventually. ❤️ February 2021: I bought 25 cuttings from Vermont Willow Company for about 90$ with shipping. They arrived in May, and I felt it was already too hot to plant them. I carefully babied them in pots until the fall. February 2022: the first 25 cuttings were slowly establishing themselves in ground. February 2023: the first 25 cuttings looking good, but too small to harvest much from. February 2024: took cuttings from the original 25 bushes and planted 100 new cuttings in each row. February 2025: first 25 willow bushes were well established. Harvested from them and a little from the 1 year old plantings. February- March 2026: harvested enough rods to finish the bee shelter and create the living fence. We also planted 5 new varieties, 25 cuttings. We'll repeat this process with them, and create another 100 cuttings from them in a few years. Next year, February 2026: make the gate for our living willow fence garden and the arched entryway. #homesteadinglife #willow #fedge #willowstructures #naturalgardening

His-story… I can’t believe I had to spend years of my life in a chair reading from his-story books and forced to memorize dates and historical figures or else I would fail the class lol. Accept and believe what we teach or you fail and pay the system price! Grateful my little self thought all of the city fires were weird. I still remember looking at the page in fourth grade thinking how did these massive stone and brick buildings just burn? And every major city? Huh? Now that I’ve stopped drinking water with the Big F and began looking into the world fairs and the surrounding timeline and events, I can see that I wasted a good chunk of life in his-story class. The late 1700s, 1800s, and early 1900s…INTERESTING TIMES. My world fair, old books, and old maps have taught me more than the entirety of his-story at school. The buildings don’t lie. The symbols don’t lie! Simply LOOK! Take a walk around your city or town. What do you think? #homesteadlife #homesteadinglife
