What’s The Favorite Döner in Istanbul? I’ve been asked this question a million times. Well, without a doubt, my favorite döner is @donerci , near the Grand Bazaar. Ever since I discovered it over 12 years ago, no visit to Istanbul—and I’ve been more than 100 times—has been complete without stopping by for a pide with double portion, plus ayran, at my favorite hole-in-the-wall in this magnificent and delicious city. A solid second place goes to @bayramogludonerkavacik Döner, famous for its massive five pillars of meat. Unlike Şahin Usta, who primarily uses minced meat, Bayramoğlu’s döner is made from thinly sliced cuts, rumored to be marinated in yogurt overnight in giant washing-machine-sized drums before being meticulously stacked onto enormous spits. These are then grilled over a wood fire, feeding thousands of hungry customers every day. I must confess—if it were closer, I’d visit Bayramoğlu much more often. Third place goes to Asım Usta’s 200 kg monster spit at Karadeniz Döner ve Pide @tarihikaradenizdoner1973 in Beşiktaş. I love it most right after they open, before 11 AM, when the meat is at its freshest and before the long lines start to form. An honorary mention goes to Sadık Usta @donerci_sadik_usta , located in Fatih, near Aksaray. His döner is salty, incredibly flavorful, and the only one I prefer to eat in ekmek (bread)., #hungrytourist_istanbul
