People Are Strange feels like a quiet observation rather than a statement. No anger. No explanation. Just the feeling of standing slightly aside, watching the world move without you. This song doesn’t try to fit in — it describes what it’s like when you don’t. The mood is light on the surface, but the meaning cuts deeper the longer you stay with it. It’s less about society and more about isolation. Live, it hits differently. The words land slower, and the atmosphere makes them feel personal, almost uncomfortable. Fun fact: Jim Morrison wrote People Are Strange during a period when he felt increasingly disconnected from those around him. Despite its upbeat melody, the song reflects a very real sense of alienation — one that later became a defining theme of The Doors’ music. #livemusic #classicrock #rockmusic #rock #thedoors

They all had fame, talent… and the same tragic age. 🕊️ The “27 Club” isn’t a real group, but it’s one of the darkest patterns in music history. Artists like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse all died at 27, each leaving behind a legacy that shaped music forever. Different lives, different stories… but the same ending. Some say it’s coincidence. Others think it says something deeper about fame, pressure, and the cost of being an icon too young. Either way, it’s one of the most haunting parts of music history.

Jim Morrison. Unpopular opinion: I loved Jim but I never liked The Doors. I just didn’t like their music. I mean this song is ok I guess but that’s it for me. I know, I’m weird. Anyway, I do think he was gorgeous and I had the BIGGEST crush on Val Kilmer when he played him in the 1991 movie about the Doors. The Doors- People Are Strange- 1967📍 Jim Morrison was depressed. He went to Robby Krieger's house, they went to a canyon to watch a sunset, at which time Jim realized he was depressed because "if you're strange, people are strange." He then wrote the rest of the lyrics, which are about feeling alienated. Krieger, The Doors' guitarist, wrote the music. He did his guitar solo in one take. The Doors played this on their only Ed Sullivan Show appearance. They also played "Light My Fire," and Sullivan never asked them to come back because Morrison sang the lines, "Girl we couldn't get much higher." >> This was covered by horror-core rap duo Twiztid on their album Freekshow. >> In 1987 the Liverpool band Echo & The Bunnymen covered this song, reaching #29 in the UK charts. Their version, which was featured in the film The Lost Boys, was produced by Ray Manzarek, who also played on the track. In a scene from the movie, the vampires' cave contains a huge poster of Jim Morrison in his Jesus pose. Manzarek also played keyboards on the Echo & the Bunnymen song "Bedbugs And Ballyhoo"; Echo also covered the Doors song "Soul Kitchen," which appears on their album It's All Live Now. Their guitarist, Will Sergeant, told Songfacts: "We used to get compared to The Doors. I don't know why. It's probably because Mac [lead singer Ian McCulloch] had that kind of lower voice, similar to Jim Morrison. He never liked The Doors when we started out. He sort of got into them, as weeks went on, because I was always playing the tapes in the van. Then he got into the whole thing."

I think The Doors are one of the most under-rated bands of all time. Album cover story below ⬇️ The cover for Strange Days was shot in 1967 in a courtyard in New York City and is the only Doors album cover not to feature the band, as lead singer Jim Morisson refused to be in it. The photographer assembled an ensemble of make-shift street performers in the courtyard including a passing taxi driver who he paid $5 to play the trumpet and the ‘weightlifter’ was a bouncer from a local night club. However if you look carefully the band do appear on a poster in the background. I visited the location exactly two years ago on a snowy day in New York City. A very kind housekeeper let me inside the gate for five minutes whilst she walked a dog round the block which allowed me to get this shot - which I must say looks pretty amazing with the falling snow. I always say if there was one gig I could go back in time to attend it would be The Doors At The Bowl, Los Angeles July 5th 1968 - one of the greatest musical performances of all time. There will never be a band ever again like The Doors. #thedoors #jimmorrison #albumartwork #recordcover #recordcovers #albumcollection #albumcollector #newyork #nyc #newyorkmusic #vinylcollector #music #rockmusic #60smusic #70smusic #strangedays #peoplearestrange #psychedelicmusic #willxgamble

When Jim Morrison felt completely out of place in the world, he walked into a canyon with Robby Krieger and watched the sunset. In that quiet moment, a simple thought hit him: “If you’re strange… people are strange.” That feeling of alienation became People Are Strange, released in 1967 by The Doors. Krieger wrote the haunting music and recorded the iconic guitar solo in just one take. The band later performed it during their only appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, where Morrison also sang Light My Fire with the controversial line “Girl we couldn’t get much higher” — a moment that got them banned from the show forever. Years later, the song lived on through covers like Echo & The Bunnymen’s version for the cult vampire film The Lost Boys, produced by Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. A song born from loneliness… that ended up speaking to millions. 🖤🎸 #TheDoors #JimMorrison #PeopleAreStrange

In 1967, Jim Morrison became the first rock star ever arrested onstage after a backstage altercation with a police officer led to an explosive mid-concert confrontation in New Haven, Connecticut. After being maced by an officer who failed to recognize him before the show, Morrison used the performance to deliver a profanity-laced rant against the local authorities, prompting police to drag him from the stage and sparking a riot among the five thousand fans in attendance. Credit: The Doors Archives and New Haven Police Department

On April 29, 1969, Jim Morrison sat down for an interview with PBS and predicted the future of music with unsettling accuracy. At a time when guitar driven rock and studio bands were the only thing anyone could imagine, Morrison described a coming era where a single person, alone, with electronic equipment, would be able to create sounds and experiences that an entire band could not. No backing musicians. No instruments in the traditional sense. Just one person and a machine. This was 1969. House music wouldn’t emerge from Chicago for another fifteen years. Techno wouldn’t come out of Detroit until the mid 1980s. Kraftwerk’s synthesizer experiments were still years away. The laptop producer didn’t exist yet as a concept. Morrison saw all of it coming. By 1971 he was dead at 27 in a bathtub in Paris, never getting to see any of it unfold. But sitting in that interview two years earlier, lucid and precise in a way he rarely got credit for, he laid out almost exactly what the next fifty years of music would look like. Most people remember him for the chaos. This is a reminder that behind all of it was one of the sharpest minds of his generation.
