BE“Ceremony” holds a unique place in music history — it was one of the last songs Joy Division wrote before Ian Curtis’s death in 1980, but they never recorded a proper studio version with his vocals. After his passing, the remaining members regrouped as New Order and released “Ceremony” as their debut single, making it both a farewell to Joy Division and the start of something new.

BRPost-punk didn’t just change the sound… it changed the whole vibe of music in Britain.
Late 70s and early 80s, everything flipped. Instead of loud, macho rockstars, you had artists embracing awkwardness, emotion, and being an outsider. It wasn’t about looking tough anymore, it was about feeling something.
Morrissey literally went on stage waving flowers with The Smiths, turning something soft and unfashionable into a statement. Gladioli became a symbol of rejecting the mainstream.
At the same time, bands like Joy Division made music that felt cold, minimal, and painfully honest, while Depeche Mode and Kate Bush leaned into mood, storytelling, and emotion over ego.
It was music for people who didn’t fit in… and that’s exactly why it worked.
Mad how something as simple as a bunch of flowers ended up defining an entire era of British music.
