One of the biggest misconceptions about popping is that the movement itself is hard.
A lot of people say, “I can’t pop, I feel awkward, I don’t know how to move.”
But the movement isn’t the difficult part.
That’s why I like to use a “follow the leader” exercise in class. It shows that anyone can make the shapes, whether beginner or advanced.
The real challenge is the technique.
The contraction.
The muscle isolation.
The ability to explode and relax the body instantly, and do it in time with the music.
This is the part that takes time. Luckily, with the right teacher cough! cough! (me), it’s something everyone can acquire. Once you understand that, everything else starts to make sense.
