MAAhhhh! Fiddlin’ on the noon news hour in El Paso, Texas today—KTSM TV Channel 9. I return to the very city in Texas I won the Sun Bowl International Fiddling Championship at age 19. And they said I could never win in Texas as a boy—but I sure did on that one! Out-of-state judges though, two of three at least; Benny Thomason, Herman Johnson, and Byron Berline. Surely THEY knew what they were doing? Ha! You can see a few seconds of footage of the El Paso competition from 1981 from the PBS special ‘Young Artists at the White House’, introduction by Merle Haggard on my YouTube channel.
Anyway enough about the past… Maggie is fiddling up a storm, we’re chopping for each other’s solos on the Christmas classic “Good King Wenceslas” - breakdown style! We had to follow absolutely morbid news today, and then a dog segment. And you know what they say—in show business, never follow a dog act. It’s nice that our music can be a part of the real world though on the news. Let music help carry you away folks.
