Wow…one entire year in remission. I didn’t know how this would feel. I mean… at one point in time I didn’t even know if I would be here. But I am. I woke up this morning with a strange feeling. It wasn’t a birthday, it wasn’t an anniversary, yet I had many people congratulating me. Wishing me “happy one year in remission”. It is certainly a day to celebrate but I didn’t feel happy. I didn’t want to jump up and down with joy. I felt a weird sense of sadness. A celebration that I lived through a battle that I didn’t choose. A recalling of a time in my life where I faced horrible procedures, medications, and hospital visits. A time where I’d cry about the thought of not being with my friends and family anymore. So with remembering that comes sadness. However I searched for the joy in it too. I found that it came with the gratitude I now have. The joy comes from it being another day I get to be with my loved ones. Another day that I get to listen to music. Another day I get to laugh with my friends. Another day I get to tell Sarah “I love you”. That’s where the joy is. The best part is that I don’t need a special day to celebrate those parts of my life. I can celebrate those things everyday. I do celebrate those things everyday. So I am celebrating my remission but not as a victory over cancer, I’m celebrating my remission as a chance to recognize what I am alive today for. I also think you can celebrate in sadness too. I wouldn’t be here without this community. I will always tell you all that I love you because I do.

Today marks 30 years since the day I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. I was just 37 years old. Happily married. Raising our 18-month-old daughter, Nicole. My cancer, multiple myeloma, was 100% fatal then. I was given three years to live, at best. Life just stopped. My husband and I kept going. We had our son. I started the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation with my sister, Karen. And together with the myeloma community, we helped change the course of this disease. After 30 years of living with cancer, here are three things I want every patient to know: 1️⃣ Learn the science of your disease. No one cares more about your cure than you. 2️⃣ Build the right medical team. Academic centers. High-volume doctors. Second opinions. 3️⃣ Remember, your cancer, your journey, affects everyone who loves you. Relationships matter-a lot. Thirty years ago, there was no roadmap for survivorship. Today, it’s important to share what we’ve learned. If you are living with cancer right now, I hope this reminds you that the future can look very different than the day you are diagnosed. 🤍 #MultipleMyeloma #Survivorship #PatientAdvocacy #CancerSurvivor #Hope

My cancer journey update New treatment explained 👇🏻 TIL (Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocyte) therapy is an advanced form of immunotherapy used to treat certain cancers, particularly melanoma. Here’s a quick overview of how it works: Tumor Sample Collection: A sample of the tumor is taken from the patient. Isolation of Lymphocytes: Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are immune cells that have already naturally penetrated the tumor. These cells are isolated from the tumor sample in the lab. Expansion of TILs: The isolated TILs are then multiplied to large numbers in the laboratory using growth factors. Patient Preparation: Before the TILs are infused back into the patient, the patient may undergo a preparative regimen that typically involves chemotherapy to reduce the number of normal lymphocytes in the body. This makes room for the new TILs to work more effectively. TIL Infusion: The expanded TILs are infused back into the patient, along with high doses of interleukin-2 (IL-2), a protein that supports the growth and activity of TILs. Attack on Cancer: Once inside the body, these TILs are better equipped to attack and destroy cancer cells. It’s not about having a pain free life, it’s about having a meaningful one 🤟 A lot of people ask about my medical journey and here is the gist of it. This doesn’t include small surgeries, some other tumors, recoveries, over 50 MRIs, countless doctors and hearing test. The fear but also the wild stories a long the way. If i included that, we’d be here all day 😂 And if you know anything about Nf2 I have it easy compared to some others. And they are the most incredible people you will ever meet!

Let me make one thing clear, me loosing my hair is not a sign of decline in my health. Its simply a price to pay for a lifeline and more time with my boys. Im not going to paint a picture that im a superwoman who sailed through this process, loosing my my hair is the most traumatic experience EVER!! I cant explain how painful it is when you hair starts falling out. While I adjust to my new image, please listen. " Its not just hair" Thank you ❤️ all of you are just so supportive to me & my boys. We share stories like this because we know how heavy the wondering can be. Always asking yourself if they’re okay, if they’re at peace, if they made it safely where you hope they are. These stories aren’t meant to explain everything or convince anyone. They’re simply little lights for anyone who needs reassurance that their loved ones are surrounded by love… no matter how they passed. ✨🤍We hold this space with love for those who are grieving. If this story doesn’t align with your beliefs, we kindly ask that you keep your words gentle. After our daughter passed from cancer in 2018, we desperately wished for a place like For 11. A space to grieve honestly with others who understood, to learn more about living connected, and to let healing arrive gently. Zero pressure, rules, or timelines, just hope that a gentler tomorrow could exist. That’s what we’re building now with the For 11 Community App, a place to connect, grieve, and heal… together. We can’t wait for this to be available to download. Make sure you’re following along so you know the moment we launch it. If you feel drawn to living the connected way and want to explore it further, comment TOGETHER and we’ll share more about the paid digital guide we created to gently support connection with loved ones across the veil. 🤍 For anyone wondering today if their loved one is safe, held, and at peace, may this story bring your heart the reassurance it craves and deserves. 🩵Rachel & Shane
