Today’s warm-up is built on a very simple cell: R R – L L – K K Two strokes right hand, two left hand, two on the kick. I move through accelerando and rallentando to clean the articulation and keep every note under control. The goal is not speed — it’s pronunciation. In this clip you can actually see the detail that matters most: the right foot mechanics. For fast double kicks the heel lifts, the foot shifts slightly forward, and the whole thing only works if the torso stays centered and balanced. Small pattern. Playing with a click is a very important skill to have. This isn’t just for practice but a majority of gigs, especially bigger production ones, require you to be able to play to a click. Using one to practice with can really help you understand how strong your timing is. It can also really bring out rushing/dragging with grooves and fills. Even if you don’t need one for a gig, practicing with one for moments you aren’t using a click will just strengthen your internal timing. Do you struggle locking in with a click?
