THMTD is the UK Government’s new digital way to track and report your income tax, replacing the old annual Self Assessment process for many self-employed people and landlords. 🇬🇧 It means keeping digital records and sending your income & expense updates to HMRC using compatible software instead of paper or manual submissions.
📆 When does it start?
From 6 April 2026, if you’re self-employed or earn rental income over £50,000 a year, you’ll need to use MTD to send quarterly updates and submit your tax return digitally.

MTD aims to make tax easier and more accurate by moving everything online, helping you stay on top of your finances throughout the year, not just at the last minute.
