As a 90's kid, I've got fond memories of spending hours watching Kerrang, waiting to record all the Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit bangers on VHS 📼 People seem to be returning to the joy of physical media so I wanted to start a series (maybe, we'll see?) that reimagines old tech through a modern lens, blending 90s nostalgia with a more contemporary industrial design. First up is the TP_01, the trusty cassette player. I wanted to capture the tactile joy of physical media, from chunky buttons to satisfying knobs, all housed within a clean, modern chassis (just don't look too closely at the internals as I'm sure they make zero electronic sense 😬) Modelled in plasticity, animated and rendered in @maxon.cinema.4d and @maxonredshift with some help from @greyscalegorilla . With original music and sound design made using my trusty @telepathic.instruments Orchid

#DesignInMotion 🪄 If only getting organized was this easy — and adorable. “I’ve received many comments saying that my 3D artwork reminds people of a video game called ‘Unpacking,’” says @artbytran_ (Tran Vo). “I was inspired to create something similar to the gameplay of emptying moving boxes and organizing a desk.” 📦 Tran, a freelance designer in Texas, enjoys creating “cute, chonky and colorful” animations using Blender, her favorite software. (Chonky is the word for animals that are adorably pudgy.) Her feed features lovable ducklings wearing rain hats, anthropomorphized banh mi sandwiches and cozy interiors stocked with plush slippers and mushroom lamps. “To me, animation is very challenging and I still have lots of things to learn,” she says. But her goal is to enjoy the process and stay open minded: “I seek inspiration from almost everything around me. 🏙️ Even though @thenamesnick (Nick Fairbanks) has never been to Pisa, he’s an expert on its topography. “I lay in bed and fly around on Google Earth, screenshotting compositions on my iPad,” he says. Fascinated by cities, Nick has pursued a personal project for the past year, creating aerial animations of iconic places. Illustrating cities is complex, so Nick tries to keep it simple, focusing on shapes – cars as rectangles, people as ovals. In college, he studied documentary filmmaking, but the creative freedom of animation drew him in: “I realized I could sit down with the Adobe tools and do the entire thing myself, end to end,” he recalls. After four years at @meta, Nick is now a self-employed illustrator and animator in Atlanta. This year, he’s looking forward to traveling in Asia. “When I look at a cityscape, I think about how inside each little window is a person with a cat or dog and houseplants. Led by Kevin Gautraud, the short becomes a meditation on scale and perspective, barren, majestic landscapes that rewind toward Earth’s origins, then snap forward into a final burst of life, our brief moment in the light. It’s awe as a creative tool, making everyday fear feel smaller, strange, and somehow survivable.  The piece was crafted with QuadSpinner Gaea for terrain building, Houdini for simulation effects, and Cinema 4D with Octane for final assembly and rendering. Sound design by Bent Stamnes brings an ethereal, spacious pulse that completes the spell.
