We are DNC Scouts & Guides, a chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts affiliated with UNC Charlotte.
I serve as the Director of Dance for DNC Scouts & Guides, and my goal is simple: to professionalize Indian classical dance training in the United States.
Our students train rigorously.
They study theory.
They rehearse for years.
They build discipline, scholarship, and leadership skills.
That work deserves formal recognition.
Through this program, students have a structured pathway to:
engage in research and writing,
develop leadership initiatives,
create meaningful projects,
and work toward having their dance training formally acknowledged — even on their transcript.
And I’m especially excited that Matrusena is associated with this initiative and supporting this vision.
Indian dance is not “just extracurricular.”
It is serious training. It is cultural knowledge. It is scholarship.
