Pretty little babies~ 🐣✨ Egg-citing news! 🤩 A pair of Peregrine Falcon chicks, also known as eyasesses, were hatched! This is the first record of Peregrine Falcon chicks in Singapore. Their parents were first observed to be nesting in the recess of the side of the OCBC Centre building in 2024. Our researchers installed two nesting trays with loose gravel to provide them with a more suitable substrate for nesting. The chicks hatched in early April and successfully fledged (took flight!) in mid-May! #Didyouknow that they are the fastest animals on our planet – able to reach up to speeds of over 300 km/h? 🦅 We are grateful for the support from our partners at OCBC, @sutdsg, @lkcnhm and @mandaiwildlifereserve to further our understanding of the Peregrine Falcon’s breeding ecology in Singapore and give these birds a boost! 🐾I share the public’s concerns on animal welfare, and would like to assure everyone that @nparksbuzz takes all cases and feedback regarding animal-related businesses, including pet groomers, seriously. And I thank MP @jessicatansn for raising these concerns in Parliament. 🐶🐱Animal-related businesses, including pet groomers, are entrusted with the care of their clients’ animals. They are hence expected to uphold high standards of animal welfare. @nparksbuzz has investigated 54 cases of feedback alleging harm to pets caused by groomers over the years. ⚖️Our Code of Animal Welfare specifies minimum standards and best practices for pet groomers. And all pet groomers are encouraged to comply with these standards and best practices. This includes not leaving animals unattended in rooms. And where there are breaches to the Code of Animal Welfare, they can be used to support the prosecution of pet grooming businesses under the ABA. 📜 In addition, under our ongoing review of the Animals and Birds Act (ABA), we are reviewing the regulations on pet sector activities, such as pet grooming businesses ✂️🐕; and the appropriate penalties for animal welfare and cruelty offences. We can all play our part. Please report any suspected animal welfare cases to NParks at www.avs.gov.sg/feedback, or call the Animal Response Centre at 1800-476-1600 📞. @mndsingapore

I have asked @nparksbuzz to resume crow shooting operations from the second half of March 2026, as an additional measure to reduce the crow population in Singapore. Shooting operations were discontinued in 2020. Since then, NParks has relied on other measures such as trapping, nest removal, and reducing food sources. However, these measures on their own, have not been adequate to keep the crow population under control. If the crow population continues to grow, it will affect the safety of our residents as there will be more crow-related attacks. As shotguns will be used, the operations do carry some risk. We will carefully manage the risks with enhanced safety measures. Shooters will go through training and are required to adhere to strict safety controls. This includes ensuring that the trajectory of the shotgun pellets is directed upwards at all times, which means the shooter must shoot upwards, as well as cordoning off the shooting zone with clear signage and providing sufficient safety personnel to prevent unauthorised access during the shooting operations. The resumption of shooting can help to bring down the crow population in different parts of Singapore, and provide a safer environment for our residents.
