One of the things I appreciate most in terms of how I grew up and the culture that was instilled in me, is the love and value I put on natural food. I grew up snacking on cucumbers with the peel, raw cauliflower, celery, and a huge fruit plate every night. I really believe that i enjoy healthy food so much as an adult because of how I ate as a kid. Also … Another thing my parents did was feed me “adult” food from day one (fish, veggies, stews), and it was my “normal” 💜 Mac & cheese with hotdogs doesn’t need to be the go to “kid food” 🙂

I wish we lived in a world where organic food didn’t exist, and where the default option is natural food, grown in soil, with no harmful chemicals. Modern farming is not farming, it is mining. It is squeezing out every last bit of goodness from the soil, and gradually turning every single process from start to finish into an artificial one. Is this the kind of food we want to be feeding the next generation? Butter made out carbon dioxide, vegetables that have never seen soil, gloopy pastes used as ‘foodstuffs’? That to me is not nourishment. The industrial agriculture sector is so dead set on creating the bigger profit margins possible, that soil and society suffer as a result. It is all about calories per acre, rather than nutrients per mouthful. I don’t blame kids for not liking vegetables; they are tasteless when they come from a supermarket, they have no aroma or character. And because of economies of scale, the sad truth is that small scale growers and farmers can’t compete price-wise with their real food in comparison to chemically-aided “food”.  @geofflawtononline ‘s quote holds more truth in it than ever before. Our gardens have the ability to nourish, inspire, teach and offer hope and security to us and our community. The trouble is that now owning a garden is becoming rarer, we are being squeezed out of one of the most important things we can do. Thank goodness for allotments and thank goodness for community gardens, but we need to make more land available, and help people access gardens with those who don’t have the time. If you are looking to start a community garden please do get in touch with me as I offer free help with designs and strategies for community gardens. In the meantime, just growing some herbs or salad on a windowsill is one important step to creating a food system you believe in🌿 #organic #permaculture #growyourownfood
