There’s no performance out here. Shepherds move like ghosts across ridgelines, doing what’s been done for centuries without ever needing an audience. Romania still has forests that don’t care if you exist, thick, primeval stretches where bears roam and the trees look like they’ve seen empires rise and rot. Spring cracks the ground open and wildflowers crawl out like they’ve got something to prove. No neat paths, no safety rails, no polite signs telling you where to stand for the best view. You earn every inch of it, or you turn back. Simple as that.
And somewhere between the ache in your legs and the silence that starts to feel louder than any city, something shifts. You stop pretending. You stop narrating your own life like it’s meant for someone else to consume. Out here, nobody cares who you are, what you’ve done, or what you think you deserve. The hills don’t negotiate. They just are. Maybe that’s the freedom people keep talking about, not comfort, not ease, but indifference so pure it resets you. So what are you really looking for out here?
