19I saw this quote the other day and just knew I had to pair it with some Mr Skelly.
Everything we think is important, literally all of it, has almost no value if we cannot be honest with ourselves. Or simply if we can’t be honest altogether. If we can’t be who we are, truly, then everything else we attempt to build will be on faulty foundation.
If you might lose something simply by being who you are, well, chances are it might not have been worth holding onto in the first place. We live in a time of some pretty intense belief systems that seem to take precedence over everyone. It feels like the best thing to do is to keep quiet, to keep to ourselves. But humanity has never been about that, it’s been about coming together despite all differences and learning to coexist.
We sacrifice so much of ourselves to preserve the things we have, or the ideas we want to stick to simply because they’re comfortable and convenient. But life isn’t comfortable or convenient, and that’s the point. We’ve been led to believe that these two things are more important than even our ow identity, our own realities, and they’re just not.
Be who you are, relish in the reality of that truth, be so willing to stand for what you believe, because by God we will all die one day and it will be with the values we hold.
I hope so much you find peace in who you are, even if it’s uncomfortable.
