They say OCD is obvious. Visible. Easy to spot. But for many people—especially those with mental compulsions—it’s anything but. No one sees the silent rituals.
The endless mental loops.
The fear of saying the wrong thing, thinking the wrong thought, being the wrong person. It took me 25 years to get diagnosed.
Because no one ever told me OCD could look like this. That’s why I wrote OCD Exposed: 10 Myths & Misconceptions About Obsessive Compulsive Disorder—to finally name what so many are silently living through.
Because when we misunderstand OCD, we delay healing. We increase shame. We keep people stuck. Comment INTRO below to get a sneak preview of the book before it drops this Tuesday on Amazon!!

If your brain keeps looping, stop. Breathe. Read this. OCD isn’t you. It’s a noisy brain playing tricks. Scary thoughts pop up. You do things to quiet them. It feels never-ending. That’s not weak, that’s survival. You’re doing the best with what you’ve got. You’re brave for staying even when your mind screams “leave.” You’re not broken. You’re trying. Try this once now: name one thing you can see, four you can touch. Breathe. Repeat. Small pause. Tiny win. You deserve calm. You deserve someone who gets it. We see you. We sit with you. Not fixing, just here. Save this. Share it. This was hard for me to record… I couldn’t get through it without tearing up, I even hesitated on posting this but hey… vulnerability is hard and if posting this means someone else could be helped that’s all that matters. Many of you know I’m passionate about mental health but SIKE WARD specifically means something deeper. I made it for OCD awareness, after finally finding answers to something I’d been battling for over a decade. For years, I thought something was wrong with me. I didn’t know what I was experiencing were OCD symptoms… intrusive thoughts that consumed me and left me feeling so isolated and ashamed. Now that I understand it, I just want to create conversations around it. No one should go through that silence thinking they’re broken. You’re not. You’re human and if I can help even just one person understand that, I’m gonna continue to make sure I speak up and create conversations 🖤 #OCDawareness #PsychWard #MentalHealth #YouAreNotAlone #breakthestigma #ocd #ocdrecovery #mentalhealthsupport

What OCD Really Looks Like: Beyond the Stereotypes ✨ Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often misunderstood as just wanting things clean and organized. In reality, it’s a mental health condition marked by persistent, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that can be debilitating. It’s the anxiety that compels someone to check the locks multiple times before leaving the house, the fear of contamination leading to excessive handwashing, or the need for symmetry and order that disrupts daily life. It’s the anxiety that drives someone to check the locks multiple times before leaving the house, the fear of contamination that leads to excessive handwashing, or the need for symmetry and order that disrupts daily life. Imagine living with constant doubts and fears, feeling compelled to perform rituals to prevent something bad from happening, even when you know it’s irrational. OCD isn’t a choice or a quirk—it’s a serious condition that affects millions of lives. Let’s raise awareness and show empathy for those who struggle with OCD. Understanding is the first step towards breaking the stigma and supporting mental health. Living with OCD is a constant struggle. It’s not just about being “neat” or “organized”; it’s about dealing with overwhelming fears and intrusive thoughts that can dominate your every moment. Imagine constantly fearing that if you don’t tap 🤚🏼a door 🚪 frame just right, something terrible will happen to someone you love. Or feeling the never-ending pressure to arrange everything perfectly, fearing that any change will result in failure. It’s the frustration of feeling like you can’t move forward until you’ve repeated a task a certain number of times, even if it makes no logical sense. Living with OCD means facing these battles every day, often feeling isolated and misunderstood by those who don’t understand the condition. Understanding the importance of OCD awareness is crucial. According to the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), it takes an average of 14 to 17 years for individuals to receive appropriate treatment for OCD. This is why it’s so important to spread awareness! You DO NOT HAVE OCD if you like to cleaning‼️ OCD is an anxiety disorder. This makes a person do things compulsively rather than in a healthy normal way. People sometimes check the doors lock a dozen times, check light switches again & again, wash hands or clean floors each time visitors come home or spend hours organising the home and ensuring things are exactly at the same place. This is not healthy and this can cause anxiety to family members and children! OCD is often misunderstood as just being “extra neat” or “a perfectionist,” but in reality, it’s a serious mental health condition. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is made up of two parts: • Obsessions: unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that create intense anxiety. These aren’t controllable—they force their way into the mind. • Compulsions: repetitive behaviors or mental rituals a person feels driven to perform to reduce the anxiety caused by obsessions. It’s not about “liking things clean”—for some, it could be constant handwashing out of fear of contamination, re-checking locks hundreds of times, or repeating certain mental phrases to “undo” bad thoughts. OCD can be exhausting. The cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors can take hours each day, interfering with relationships, work, and peace of mind. The truth? OCD is not a personality quirk—it’s a disorder that needs understanding, compassion, and often professional help. #OCD #MentalHealthAwareness #ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorder #AnxietyRelief #EndTheStigma #TherapyWorks #HealingJourney #MentalWellness #MindMatters #MentalHealthSupport #AnxietyAwareness #OCDRecovery #InnerHealing #TherapyTalks #MentalHealthEducation #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay #CompassionOverJudgment #HealingMindset #TherapyForAll #MentalHealthIndia #BreakTheStigma #MentalHealthCommunity #OCDHelp #OCDReality #WellnessJourney #TherapyHeals #MentalStrength #InvisibleIllness #PsychologyFacts #ThePsychologyLounge OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, OCD symptoms, OCD meaning, OCD treatment, OCD therapy, OCD awareness, OCD support, OCD recovery, OCD India, OCD psychology, mental health OCD, OCD help, OCD myths, living with OCD

I've never really liked myself. Not how I look, or how I act, or even who I am at my core. Typing this and sharing it for all to see is terrifying actually. But it's the unfortunate truth of my existence. And I know I'm not alone in it, and that's why I continue to expose my vulnerability publicly, to maybe remind others that they're not alone. But the one thing I've started to grow fond of about myself lately has been my ability to be kind. I don't think it necessarily says anything about me, just that I understand what it's like to face unkindness in a cruel world. Which is why if I can help it, I will prevent any cruelty I see, and I will spread as much kindness as I physically can. So why choose cats to focus so much of my efforts and energy on? Cats, my most beloved creatures on this Earth, have given me more than I can express. They have gotten me through some of the hardest times of my life, they've healed broken pieces of my heart that they never broke, they've sat with me through loneliness and darkness, and they've been a reason for me to carry on. And on top of all that, they've been essential in my OCD recovery journey. As some of you may know, I struggle with contamination OCD. And so caring for them has been both a challenge and a blessing, teaching me to overcome my strongest fears. And I'll forever be grateful to these angels I wish I was pretty. I know that little girl inside wanted to grow up to be the best version of herself. But I guess she'll have to settle for me. Not a pretty girl, but one who tries to be kind.
