Going through this cancer journey has been among other things, a surprising 'things that make you go hmmm' social study.🤓 Something I've noticed over the past six months...there are people in my life I genuinely know outside of social media. We’ve shared dinners, long conversations, actual life moments. And I can see they watch my Instagram stories, the hospital updates, the radiation selfies, the more vulnerable days. They’re clearly seeing it all unfold. Yet… nothing. Not a comment. Not even the tiny half-a-second little double tap. And to be crystal clear, I don't share any of my story or this post for sympathy. I talk about what’s happening because it’s my life right now, and because being open about things like cancer and epilepsy matters to me.🩷💜 Still, I’d be lying if I said it isn’t a little puzzling sometimes. You start wondering if people feel awkward. If they don’t know what to say and they think silence is the safest option. Or maybe Instagram really is just a strange place where people watch quietly from the sidelines.🤔👀 At the same time, something else has been happening that I didn’t expect at all. People I haven’t spoken to in years, like old coworkers, distant relatives, acquaintances I've met at parties and friends of friends. They’re the ones sending thoughtful messages, checking in, sharing their own stories, offering support in ways I never would have imagined.🥹 It’s been surprising in the best way.🫶🏽 And then there’s my village. The people who have truly shown up. The ones who let me cry, laugh with me on the car rides to the hospital, send ridiculous memes, or simply sit with me and hold my hand when I don’t have the energy to pretend I’m fine.😍 Moments like this make things very clear. Anyway, this video of a farmer chopping it off feels oddly appropriate. This past year has taught me a lot. I learned that success isn’t about being constantly overbooked or people pleasing all the time just to keep everyone happy. I bent over backwards for others and rarely had that same energy returned. Choosing myself has been one of the best things I’ve ever done. And yes I lost clients along the way but I had to ask myself if those relationships were truly aligned to begin with. Not everyone can adapt to change and that’s okay. I stopped taking it personally when a client didn’t return. Sometimes it’s not rejection it’s simply outgrowing each other and it took me years to understand that. What I’ve learned most is that boundaries don’t mean a lack of care. I still understand that people have real situations, real lives, and real challenges and I do my best to accommodate when I can. The difference now is that I no longer abandon myself in the process. Growth looks like balance, respect and mutual understanding and that’s the space I’m choosing to build from 🫶
