DEA beloved covered bridge in 2 counties, Southern Chester County PA this side and Southern Lancaster County , PA other side. Bridge built sometime in 1800s. It's clearly marked before one lane bridge, clearly in big numbers states height restrictions. Forge Rd Oxford and Ashville Rd Lancaster County very busy rd for our Amish friends and neighbors, this bridge and rd saves Amish 2 to 4 miles compared to rte 272 and rte 472 and much safer traffic wise.
Approximately, 2 wks ago a box truck driven by a non English speaking to very little English speaking immigrant no idea if legal vs illegal, we have both in both counties, driving a business I'm told box truck entered the bridge and went from one side to the other damaging the front top, middle top, and end. I'm told a water works employee tried to stop the truck and they were ignored, the bridge top easily could have collapsed, driver just continued up the rd, PA state police called and driver found and stopped. 2 things I'm told said, one was he had no clue damaged the bridge. how the hell could you not know or hear the top of the box truck your driving is wiping out beams above you causing a collapse? Then told he said, although also told he spoke little to no English, the officers got at one point how he thought he was 2 inches below the bridge limit.
Why is this alarming? Several reasons, how can you safely drive and any truck from box truck to a rig on usa rds if only understand few to little English? What if a emergency sign stating a wildfire or flooding and saying regarding roads closed? In our areas there isn't necessarily a easy place for a truck to turn around. Then they are destroying a Historicial Landmark, I'm sick of Lancaster County Covered Bridges being destroyed because some truck can't understand signs. This bridge initially was going to be closed a yr or more, but apparently got permission to temporarily fix it so it can be used by us and the Amish. I did call Brian Cutlers office, State Representative regarding this last week and ways we could prevent this again and regarding more signs before a bridge or somehow markers if your this high you can't cross bridge and maybe paint

PEAround 100 vehicles representing more than 65 organizations took part of the annual "Light Up the Night" event at the children's hospital on the campus of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
One of the lead vehicles in the procession was a Pa. State Police cruiser decorated in honor of Cpl. Timothy O'Connor, who was killed on the job in Chester County on Sunday.
The event is designed to lift the spirits of the children staying at the hospital.
