PHThree mountain rescues in less than two hours.
Around 11:30 a.m., Phoenix firefighters responded to a hiker needing help on Camelback Mountain near the Echo Canyon Trailhead.
Crews first located a woman about ¼ of the way up the trail who slipped and injured her ankle, requiring a helicopter hoist rescue. While firefighters were treating that patient, a second hiker experiencing dizziness about ⅓ of the way up the trail needed assistance descending. Shortly after, a third hiker who had fallen was also rescued by helicopter hoist and transported to the hospital. The other two hikers declined transport.
Three rescues in less than two hours is a reminder that hikes can quickly become dangerous.
Before you hike:
• Bring plenty of water 💧
• Know your limits 🥾
• Wear proper footwear
• Avoid peak heat hours ☀️
• Turn around if you start feeling unwell
