SOThese are my go to “refresh” styles ft. some of my favorite Prose products!
The hair oil is really great here since it’s a bit on the heavier side—it really helps pull together and smooth down my hair to avoid brushed out poof.
I am still trying out different *actual* refresh routines and haven’t settled on something I like, but once I do I’ll be sure to make a video.
In the mean time, I love my no product refreshes since they are quick, easy, and keep my hair feeling lightweight and soft!
As long as I am doing my normal sleep routine of hair wrapping, my day 2 hair is pretty similar to my wash day hair, so I pretty much only pull these out on day 3 or 4. And in general, I wash every 3-4 days :)

SCthat tricky line between vivid writing and overly flowery prose … let’s chat ✍️
During one of my English classes in middle school, my teacher handed me back a story I’d turned in. She’d crossed out entire paragraphs and written “KATHERINE—LOOK UP PURPLE PROSE!”
I did, and she was right. The amount of detail I used was weakening my writing. But I felt confused. After all, I grew up reading lots of classic lit. How could the prose be weak if I was describing so much?
But it WAS weak. (And nothing like great classic lit. 😂) Long sentences, multi-syllabic words, excessive emotion, a plethora of clichés. Purple prose is often criticized as melodramatic: places where the reader “sees” us as writers trying to flex our muscles. Sections of purple prose can slow our readers, and at worst, might result in writing that feels exaggerated or pretentious.
“But we’re told to use details,” you say. “So how much is too much?”
While I can’t make recommendations without seeing your work, I can definitely offer a few warning signs to look out for. If a section is reading purple, it may be time to cut down and condense. Sounds fair? Let’s discuss those👇
Warning signs:
🪻1.) Excessive adjectives and adverbs: If you find yourself using multiple modifiers to describe something simple, it could be a sign of purple prose. Think: is this adding something to the scene? Or am I trying to find an impressive way to describe something the reader already knows is there?
🪻2.) While metaphors and similes can enhance writing, using too many or overly complex ones can distract the reader. I know I have a tendency to overuse figurative language, so now I think extremely critical about each simile/metaphor I want to put in. Does it add/change something to elevate the scene?
🪻3.) Long, convoluted sentences: Purple prose often involves sprawling, run-on sentence structures that are difficult for the reader to follow. Lots of commas, lots of semicolons.
At the end of the day, we’re trying to make sure each word serves a purpose in conveying the story’s message. Revising with a critical eye (and willingness to cut) is vital.
