Share this with a parent who’s trying to connect but keeps getting caught in power struggles. If your teen shuts down, escalates, or just tunes you out. it might not be what you’re saying. It might be how it’s landing. These 4 phrases? Totally normal. Totally ineffective. When you rework your words, you don’t lose power—you gain influence. You don’t need to be perfect. But you do need to be clear, grounded, and emotionally steady enough to lead. Every hard moment is a chance to grow—for your teen and for you. Follow for real-talk parenting tools that actually work in the heat of the moment. #parentingteens #parentcoach #parentinghelp #consciousparenting #emotionallyintelligentparenting #interpersonaleffectiveness #teendynamics #parentinggrowth #parentingthroughconflict #regulatebeforeyorelate #parentingwithoutyelling #gentleparentingteens #teencommunicationtips

Okay obviously the beginning is so hard (that first day home is a real lesson in "WTF IS HAPPENING" but I actually think the hardest time (at least for me!!!) is a little later. I think what makes it even harder too is that we're used to things (typically) moving linearly. You start at the bottom and then steadily move up....but not postpartum. So when you're not only NOT moving (or just going backwards???) it feels like something is wrong. Did you experience this slump too?? Or was the hardest moment at a different time than you would have expected? Ever tried a popular parenting tip… only to realize it just didn’t work for your kids? 😅 Here are 3 that totally flopped for us: 1️⃣ Paying for chores — I thought it’d teach responsibility + the value of money, but it made them do things only for rewards. So I shifted the convo: we all contribute because we’re a team. Now, they’re way more involved, and it actually means something to them. 2️⃣ Letting them cry it out — Everyone said it would help her sleep. It just didn’t sit right with me. Instead, we co-slept until she felt secure. We built a bedtime routine together, and now she sleeps in her room (with me nearby until she feels safe). No stress, just slow and secure progress. 3️⃣ Teaching them to share everything — I thought it was how you raised generous kids. But forcing it made them resent sharing. Now, we talk about permission and how giving from the heart feels better. Empathy > obligation. 👇🏼Your turn: ever tried a “golden rule” that didn’t work for your fam? Drop it in the comments — let’s help each other out. 💛 Parenting isn’t one-size-fits-all. Tips help, but the real magic? Finding what works for your family. Tag a mama who needs this. 🙌 🙋‍♀️ Follow @mom.outofoffice for more real talk on motherhood.

When kids don’t listen, yelling feels faster… but these 10 lines work way better, and they teach real-life skills at the same time. Here are 10 things to say in the moment when you’re about to lose your cool: 1. “Hey, I need your eyes for a second.” Connection first → listening second. 2. “Pause what you’re doing, this is important.” Calm authority. 3. “Try answering me so I know you heard me.” Builds response skills. 4. “Let’s reset. What did I just ask you to do?” Brings them back without yelling. 5. “I’ll wait right here for a respectful answer.” Steady leadership. 6. “Okay, I’ll say it once more. Listen with your whole body.” Clear expectations. 7. “Take a breath with me, then we’ll fix it.” Regulation before action. 8. “I’ll listen to you after you talk to me with respect.” Boundaries + connection. 9. “We can talk about it after you finish the job.” Stops arguing loops. 10. “Show me you heard me by starting now.” Turns listening → action. Kids listen better when we’re calm, clear, and steady, not perfect. If you want my full guide of one-liners for the hard moments, comment WORDS and I’ll send it to you.

When I did “more” : ⭐️ letting the dishes in the sink sit an extra few minutes ⭐️ folding laundry while chatting about the newest video game ⭐️ stopped saying “in one minute” & just gave that minute to them ⭐️ cared less about “order” and “organization” & more about “presence” ⭐️ showed interest, asked questions about what matters to them ⭐️ remembered my time & energy is most valuable when it involves my children - so that is where I put it The more seen, heard and valued my children feel I find the easier it is to get that same respect back. We used to battle when tablet time was over … by giving them my time, interest, attention (over the dishes, crumbs on the floor & linen closet organizing) I have absolutely noticed an improvement in my family dynamic & had to share on case you are looking for some strategy or are experiencing this shift for yourself. #parenting #real #realtalk #boymom #connection #parenthood #motherhood #fatherhood #presence #attention #mindfulness
