All spots filled within hours, with 48 girls lucky enough to grab a spot and give it a go. Huge thanks to Australian Government Play Our Way and @nrmainsurance RISE for backing programs like this and helping create more space for girls in the surf. Hawke’s Bay Boardriders – Round 1 Wrap Up Round 1 kicked off on Sunday under some pretty challenging circumstances to start the morning. Once things got underway it turned into an epic day of surfing with over 70 competitors in the water across the divisions (including a few duplicate divisions). It was awesome to see such a huge turnout and so many groms, juniors and seniors getting involved. A massive thank you to the incredible crew of volunteers who make these days happen: • Sarah keeping everyone fed on the BBQ • James running the trailer • John holding it down as Head Judge • and all the parents and committee members, and members who stepped up throughout the day, solid as always. It wasn’t just Sunday keeping the Boardriders crew busy either. Saturday was our Adaptive Surfing Day, welcoming 19 participants into the water. Huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this day possible. It’s honestly one of the most rewarding days on the calendar, and if you haven’t helped out before we highly recommend getting involved next time. The weekend actually kicked off Friday night with the BBQ fundraiser at Three Wise Birds, which we run every Friday. A huge shout out to Josh, who fronted all three days - the Friday fundraiser, Adaptive Surfing Day on Saturday and Club Round 1 on Sunday. Massive effort and hugely appreciated by the club. All up it was a full Boardriders weekend from start to finish. Round 1 results are now live on LiveHeats, and the event was also part of the Surfing New Zealand Grom Series SNZ1000. And to all the usual crew who always jump in to help out behind the scenes it doesn’t go unnoticed. A big thank you as well to all of our sponsors for supporting the club and making these events possible. What a crew. 🤍
