CSHealth and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday outlined his approach to combating the nation’s obesity epidemic and said his nomination to the role by President Trump “felt providential.”
“For 20 years, I was screaming about this with nobody paying attention. No pediatricians, which is really strange,” he said at the Heritage Foundation. “They’ve seen this increase, this influx in all these diseases, and I was censored and shut down. And I prayed every single day that God would put me in a place where I could fix this.”
The secretary said the role of government is not to prohibit Americans from accessing unhealthy foods, but to ensure people understand the consequences of their choices.
“We’re not telling people what to do,” he said. “If you live in this country, you ought to be able to buy a Coca-Cola if you want one or eat a Krispy Kreme donut, but we’re going to tell you it’s not good for you.”
