Late last year, CAL FIRE’s Amador-El Dorado Unit (AEU) conducted a Vegetation Management Program prescribed burn at Amoruso Ranch in Amador County. This prescribed burn of approximately 78 acres was conducted to burn within the VMP to continue the reduction of fuels in the fuel break and increase fire protection for communities. It was also a hands-on learning opportunity for CAL FIRE students, teaching them proper firing techniques and how to create fire lines – refining valuable skills for their next fire assignment and expanding CAL FIRE’s prescribed fire capabilities. The goal of @calfire's Vegetation Management Program is to reduce the chance of large, damaging wildfires by reducing fire hazards on wildland in California using techniques like prescribed fire. Partnerships on projects like this with private landowners are key to expanding California’s capacity to reduce fuel for wildfires and create strategic fuel breaks near our communities.

Fire Safe Council monthly meeting 🔥 I always value being in these rooms, representing the Rancho Peñasquitos Fire Safe Council and connecting with other councils across San Diego. Every person there is volunteering their time, which says a lot about how important this work is. At our most recent meeting, we continued the conversation around Zone 0 and its rollout. Right now, the focus is on education. Helping homeowners understand what Zone 0 is, what compliance looks like, and how to realistically apply it to their homes. There is so much happening across the county when it comes to wildfire preparedness and protection, and it truly is a collective effort. From fire professionals to scientists, educators, and community volunteers, everyone plays a role. Grateful to be part of a group that cares deeply about protecting our communities and helping San Diego stay prepared. More to come as I continue to learn and share.
