Tantrums are a regular occurrence with my highly emotional 3 year old, but we move past them so quickly every single time using the strategies I’ve learned over my career working with young children. Most importantly, I never “give in”, but I always give emotional support via co-regulation (this is backed by tons of neuroscience).
You’re not “giving in” by hugging and loving your child when they’re upset or “raising a spoiled brat”. The only way you do that is by giving them the objective of their tantrum which in this case would have been more TV. I stayed firm on my boundary while offering lots of support, coping strategies, affection, and empathy because the only way out of a tantrum is THROUGH. Of course, yelling, hitting, punishing, or distracting would also “stop” the tantrum, but any of those approaches would come with so many long-term negative psychological effects. This approach teaches children that tantrums will never work WHILE helping them build up key regions in their brain 🧠 related to emotional self-regulation so that they can grow up to be well-adjusted adults.

-Andrija uz fantastičnu edukacijsku rehabilitatoricu s ekipom iz škole izradio,
i tiskana im je božićna slikovnica 😍
Ali “da se ne zaboravi”
Uspjeh iz vedra neba je rijedak
Iza svake lijepe stvari i svakog uspjeha
mnoge su neprospavane noći, krvavi trud i rad, prolivene suze, terapije svake vrste
(ne samo za Jakija, nego i za braću,i mamu)
Moj potpuni burnout nakon kojeg sam
konačno počela odvajati vrijeme i na sebe
i ono sto meni daje snagu i puni baterije
Treninzi, čitanje, psihoterapije
Mnoge toksične veze prekinute
Kad vidite sve divno i krasno i na mrežama,
sigurno puno puta i je tako
Ali sigurno puno puta iza divnog trenutka stoji kaos, hrpa nelijepih i teških trenutaka, padova,
i nije uvijek sve idealno
Barem kod mene
Svaka lijepa sličica i video su krvavo zarađeni
I zato ih cijenim još i više
Bogu hvala na snazi i upornosti
I mojim ljudima
Bez kojih bi lijepih trenutaka bilo puno manje

Because no, this isn’t easy. Not even close. Separation is painful and complex. It’s a daily swirl of grief and relief, guilt and grace. And parenting through it means wondering, every single day (!!!) how your choices are affecting your kids.
But in that moment, I saw something I wasn’t expecting: her sense of possibility. That she could do life on her own terms. That family doesn’t have to look one way. That love doesn’t always come in the order we were taught.
It would be irresponsible of me not to acknowledge the privilege that shapes my experience. I have a healthy co-parenting relationship. I chose a good person to have kids with. And that makes all the difference.
Even still, this is hard on my kids. Of course it is. I see it in ways big and small, and I hold it with care. But sometimes, amidst all the change, there are tiny glimmers of hope. Little comments that remind me they’re not just surviving this. They are also shaping a worldview that’s wide enough to hold complexity. One where choosing yourself isn’t selfish, it’s honest.
This isn’t a story about my child healing me. It’s a story about how, even in the hardest seasons, there are moments that soften the edges. And sometimes, those moments come from the most unexpected places.
If you’re in the thick of something similar, just know: your kids can hold more than pain. And so can you.

Ini fase dimana anak lagi belajar emosi. Dan sebagai ibu aku juga sedang belajar untuk lebih sabar lagi.
Walau kadang ada rasa malu yang dibaluti rasa ingin marah sambil teriak STOPPPPP NANGISNYA!😭
Apalagi kejadian ini di sekolah. Ada beberapa wali murid yang melihat, guru-guru dan anak-anak lain. Aku sengaja mengeluarkan anakku dari dalam kelas agar murid lain tetap konsentrasi belajar dan tidak terganggu.
Sementara anakku tetap ku biarkan menangis di luar kelas sampai dia puas. Mungkin ada setengah jam dia menangis dan setengah jam itu juga aku diam saja. Aku biarkan dia belajar mengelola emosi nya. Setelah tenang, baru aku ajak bicara🥹
HUAAAAA peluk jauh untuk buibu yang anakknya usia 2 tahun juga. Semangattt buat kita semua💪❤️
