From Self-tape to Screen || “Elsbeth” In honor of @elsbethcbs’s midseason premiere tomorrow— I present another edition of “Self-tape to Screen.” •This scene jumped off the page for me when I got this audition. The writing made it easy to dive in and “find” JULIA. I felt like I knew who she was right away. Shoutout to the episode’s writer, Erica Larson.✨🖊️ •This was my first scene on my first day at “Elsbeth” and I WAS NERVOUS.💯😅 Thankfully I had the very kind & supportive direction of @lionelc1 to guide me! •If the line: “The PPG tech with optical heart rate sensors used in fitness trackers is pretty accurate” sounds like a mouthful… believe me, it was!!! (It tripped ya girl up SEVERAL times.) But we got it! 😅💀🙈 •I had the warmest and most encouraging scene partners in @wendellpcg & @sullivanjones.✨🙏🏾 Oh! And if anything about this self-tape looks ‘similar’👀 to my “Reasonable Doubt” tape, I’ll just say… don’t act like you ain’t never had a lucky audition shirt! #FBF 2020. My mom was visiting from NY and it was her first time ever that she helped me audition by reading with me- it was a self tape for “Reasonable Doubt”. I remember she was self conscious because of her voice - the essential tremors being audible. I didn’t belabor the process for this reason so we didn’t rehearse beforehand and I only recorded this one take. Though I did get pinned, ultimately, it didn’t result in booking the job. But… to see her face when we finished the scene- I knew my mom was profoundly proud and that will always be treasured and enough. Thank you GOD, for all of it, but especially for Sandi. ♥️
