Fun facts about slower runners: They aren’t all overweight, there are tons of slower runners who you would assume run 7 min miles and don’t. Just like there are overweight runners who can run 9/10 min miles. Every body is different. They aren’t lazy, training for a run can take double the amount of time than most, that doesn’t mean they aren’t working hard, they are working within the limits of their body. I cannot bust out a 7 min mile, I’m just not there anymore. Doesn’t mean my 12 min mile isn’t hard for me. My speed work may not be as fast as most but again it’s still hard for me, that doesn’t mean I’m lazy and speed look different for everyone. Have different race experiences. Did you know most back of the pack and slower runners have to deal with hydration stations closing even before they were suppose to? Having a bad race day as a back of the pack runner and someone who is middle or front is also different because while a front/mid pack runner will still be supported on the course in many cases, back of the pack runners risk the course closing on them, especially if they have a bad race day. They don’t get to always have time to spare like using the porta potty or risk being swept off the course. Far from lazy. Anyone that gets off the couch and works to become a better version of themselves is not lazy. Compared to where I was last year, I’ve improved and going to continue working hard to get to where I want to be 💕 it may take me years but damn it I will keep showing up. #running #runner #marathoner #slowrunner #runwalkrun #runnersworld

2:45 half marathon with run/walk intervals? YES. 🙌 This is exactly how we paced the 2:45 group at the @a_change_of_pace Davis Stampede Half with the @gvh_davis and my amazing co-pacer, @deeleo17 Here’s the breakdown ⬇️ 🏃‍♀️ Run 2 minutes at 11:39/mile 🚶‍♀️ Walk 1 minute at 15:00/mile ⏱️ Average pace: 12:35/mile That rhythm gets you to a 2:45 finish feeling strong, steady, and in control. 💥 Could you use different intervals to hit 12:35? Absolutely. There are so many ways to get there. This is just my favorite setup because it keeps the effort smooth and sustainable from mile 1 to mile 13.1. Run/walk isn’t “less than.” It’s strategic. It’s smart. And it works. If 2:45 is your goal, I’ve got you covered. 👇 Comment PACE BAND below and I’ll send you a FREE 2:45 half marathon pace band (miles + kilometers). Let’s chase that finish line the strong way. 🏃🏻‍♀️ #RunWalkRun #HalfMarathonTraining #HalfMarathonPacer #AllRunnersCount #RunStrongRun

This method has changed my relationship with running. I use the Jeff Galloway Method, a run-walk-run strategy for covering long distances. To me this is an incredible way for many to start a running program and for racers that want to “finish” long distances races. Benefits include…delayed fatigue, conservation of resources, quicker recovery, mentally breaks down the race into digestible bites, less stress on “weak” links. I’m not at all embarrassed by walking during my runs in training or races. I couldn’t care less what people think… all I care about is finishing. At the Hennepin 100 miler we did a 6 minute run and 4 minute walk and completed 100 miles in approximately 23 hours and finished 51st place out of ~200 participants. I currently use a 7 minute run and 3 minute walk program, but you can start at a 1:1 ratio of your a beginner runner. Ive been using this strategy almost 20 years and truly believe it has helped me extend my running days and for sure has impacted my love of running. I know a lot of people who will be pushing themselves to new distances at Runningman using this method. Can’t wait to see it. It’s how I’ll be running the marathon there. #RunWalkRun

Tag a friend who uses the @jeffgallowayolympian #runwalkrun method OR a friend who should try it! Each time I run a race doing the #gallowaymethod it happens. I pass people. I take a walk break. They pass me. We leap frog each other for miles and eventually I pull away and they say, “I should try that next time.” Don’t wait - try it now! For me walk breaks help mentally and science says they help physically. Yes you’re still a real runner with walk breaks. You’re just a smart runner who keeps a solid pace while reducing your risk for injury. For my 9:30 pace I run 2:30 and walk :30. #rundisney #run #wdwmarathon #runchat #motherrunner #instafit #fitmom #halfmarathon

I recently discussed using a run walk strategy in my Ironman Triathlon, so think this post by @coachtommy.nrg on The Run-Walk Method is a very appropriate follow up. The run-walk method is a simple and effective method to avoid injury, boost motivation for running, and improve endurance 🙌 I love to incorporate run-walks with a lot of my clients who are new to the sport. It’s a great way to add volume to the training without putting too much stress on the body Who would benefit from run-walk sessions? 📖 - Those who are new to the sport - Those struggling to build mileage - Those who struggle to run continuously without going anaerobic - Those with bad joints - Those who are severely overweight Key points ✍️ Avoid fatigue: Start your walk portion before you get too tired. Don’t confuse run-walks with intervals. It should be used to build your aerobic endurance. You shouldn’t be embarrassed to walk! It doesn’t make you any less of a runner if you have to walk at points 😎 You need progression: As you continue with your run-walk program, try to extend the amount of time you’re running and reduce your walking time 📈 Week 1: 1 min run, 2 min walk x 8 Week 2: 2 min run, 2 min walk x 6 Week 3: 4 min run, 1 min walk x 5 Week 4: 6 min run, 1 mins run x 4 Etc Have you guys had any luck with the run-walk method? Pacing isn’t always about who’s beside you—it’s about who’s behind you. 💥 💬 Comment “SCHEDULE” below, and I’ll send you my 2025 pacing calendar—let’s meet at the start line! Sometimes, as a pacer, you have a group running with you. Other times? You’re running alone. But here’s the thing—you never know who’s following. Someone could be tracking your pace from a distance, relying on you to keep them steady, even if they’re not right next to you. That’s why, no matter what, I always stick to my pace and run my race with purpose. 🏃🏻‍♀️ I just paced the Davis Stampede Half Marathon with @gvh_davis, using a 2-minute run / 1-minute walk strategy to hit a 2:45 finish time: 🏃 Run pace: 11:39 per mile (7:14 per km) 🚶 Walk pace: 15:00 per mile (9:19 per km) 🏁 Official finish time: 2:44:17! ✅ ✨ Want to know where I’ll be pacing next? The Run Walk Run method ⬇️🤪 First off, follow me for more running tips like this and SAVE THIS for later 📌 I used the Run Walk Run method from coach Jeff Galloway. Yes, I walked. At the time, I was on a 10km running plan. This plan had 3 types of workouts : ✅ Easy runs : make sure these are a conversational pace, and walk before you feel like you need to. Walk breaks were the key to this. Keep your heart rate in zone 2 (this can vary from person to person, typically 60-70% of your max HR). On these easy runs, try to incorporate walking breaks BEFORE you actually feel the need for them. ✅ Tempo runs : These are at a faster pace. You should be comfortably uncomfortable. Try getting longer and longer hard efforts. ✅ Intervals : 30 seconds on - 30 seconds off. Repeat 4-8 times. I mean 30sec HARD. Then either jog or walk. Make sure you have a proper warm up and cooldown (10min each). I ran 3 times a week, with one session being a longer and longer run. Remember this is all you. You run your way. You should run very gently. There is no speed or pressure just motion. Run as gentle as your walkng pace. You should feel like you could slow down at any point. If you need to walk longer, that’s perfect. The goal is finishing, not impressing #JDC25K #CouchTo5K #Newrunner #RunWalkRun #running

Last week I discovered the joys of run/walk intervals and I wanted to try it out for my first long distance race 🏃🏻‍♀️ I’m not the strongest runner, so incorporating more walking has been incredible. I assumed it would make me slower but I actually got my HALF MARATHON PB 🤘🏻 This was my third half marathon and my absolute FAVE! As I learn more about how to make running as enjoyable as possible, these long runs become even more fun. This was also my first half abroad in sunny Barcelona ☀️🌴 Thank you to @brooksrunninguk for inviting me. So cool to be with the brand I’ve been wearing on my feet since my very first half marathon in 2019 🤘🏻 I feel like I learnt so much from my new pals @therunnerbeans & @esther_newman_ and I can’t wait to incorporate it into my training!! #gifted #barcelonahalfmarathon #runwalkrun #runwalk #jeffing #backofthepack

Jeffing is the Answer 🧠💥 I’ve been using the Jeff Galloway run/walk method for years — aka Jeffing — but lately I’ve been toying with a wild idea: 🤔 What if I just ran slower instead? Wouldn’t that have the same effect? So last week, I tested it out. Ran the whole way at just under a 12-min pace (my usual jeffing average). The result? 🚍 Full ticket on the Struggle Bus. Legs heavy, heart rate high, vibes low. Fast forward to today: back to my tried-and-true Jeffing. Same average pace. But this time? ✅ Never tired ✅ Solid zone 2 heart rate ✅ Finished strong at 1:20 and 6.5 miles ✅ Could’ve kept going! So there you have it… scientific (okay, personal anecdotal) proof: 🎯 Jeffing works. Not just for beginners. Not just for recovery. But for anyone who wants to finish strong and actually enjoy the run. #jeffingftw #runwalkrun #runningwisdom #mastersrunner #zone2training #gallowaymethod #smartrunning #runningover60 #marathontraining #choosehappiness #belegendary
