Most people hear shark and think danger. But what if I told you they’re not the monsters we’ve been led to believe?
This morning we experienced @barefoot_kuata Awakening Bull Shark Dive and I’ll put it out there as one of the most powerful, wild experiences I’ve ever had.
This ethical dive is all about education and conservation as per the words of our guide Semi:
“The whole reason why we operate this dive is to change people’s misconceptions on how they see sharks. People come here with lots of different stories which has formed their belief system and our job is to change that.”
Sharks aren’t out to get us — they’re beautiful, vital, and worth protecting.

These beautiful, underrated sharks are found in oceans all around the world, yet there are only a handful of places where you can actually see them, making encounters with them incredibly special. Despite their global range, they spend most of their time in deeper offshore waters, which is why sightings are so rare. Sadly most thresher shark sightings are the result of bycatch rather than natural sightings.
Despite their beauty and fascinating behaviour, these sharks are often overlooked in shark conservation discussions, even though all three species are listed as vulnerable. Thankfully there are some incredible research efforts helping to change that. Every new discovery brings us one step closer to understanding and protecting these amazing sharks…🦈🩵
