There's a practice called high-frequency trading.
Banks, brokers and hedge funds have computers sitting physically close to the stock exchange.
So close that they see your buy order milliseconds before it goes through.
In that gap, they buy the stock you wanted.
Then sell it back to you for a penny more.
Every. Single. Time.
Michael Lewis wrote a whole book about it and 60 Minutes covered it.
It's not a conspiracy. It's just how the game is set up.
And it's legal. That's the part that gets me.
You can do everything right, research the stock, time the trade, make the right move and still lose before you even start.
That's why I stopped trying to win a race I knew was rigged.
Private markets don't work like this.
There's no algorithm front-running your deal. No dark pool where institutions sneakily move money before you see the price.
It's due diligence, deal flow, and more patient capital.
That's where the real gains are made. And it's the game worth learning.
