DRSkin tags are very common benign growths that are not harmful, but can be removed cosmetically. If a skin tag is larger, it may need to be surgically removed. In this video I am removing a skin tag with surgical scissors and cautery. ✂️ Skin tags are commonly located on creases or folds of the skin and often like areas of friction. They are made up of blood vessels and collagen surrounded by an outer layer of skin.
To treat, I first numb the area, then surgically remove the skin tag. Here I am using Aluminum Chloride to cauterize or stop bleeding at the base. The patient will apply an ointment over it like Vaseline or Aquaphor for moist wound healing and these usually heal up beautifully. 🙌 There are a variety of ways to remove skin tags including, surgically, with electrocautery (I’ll post another video soon), and with liquid nitrogen. I have heard / seen quite a few horror stories after at home skin tag removal with tooth floss, scissors etc.🙈 Skin tag removal is best performed in a doctor’s office to avoid potential damage to the skin or infection!
