TH4 reasons why we really don’t like the snoo, from an evolutionary biology standpoint:
1. it perpetuates separation from mom and baby
2. it hinders the integration of key primitive reflexes that serve as the foundation for all other aspects of our nervous system (agility, coordination, postural reflexes)
3. it emits a non-native EMF (nnEMF) that impacts the way that our body and cells can hold vital charge (our cells are like batteries!)
4. the rocking movement is not only unnatural, but detrimental to baby’s vestibular system

NANo judgment! I've had babies wake every hour too... but there are some real concerns about the Snoo. All the FDA cares about (and why it is FDA approved 🙄) is it puts babies on their backs so this "decreases SIDS risk".. although that's another discussion and definitely has faulty evidence back sleeping alone lowered the rate of SIDS. Either way, there are concerns about Snoo that shouldn't be ignored. Most physical therapists and occupational therapists who work with children see this and have the same concerns (chime in about this in the comments).
Let's discuss specifics...
➡️ Poor primitive reflex integration: by limiting the natural movement and sensory experiences necessary for these reflexes to develop and integrate properly, the Snoo delays integration. Retained primitive reflexes can happen for multiple reasons but the Snoo doesn't help and actually hinders this process. This can cause anything from bedwetting, anxiety, sensory processing disorders, and more.
➡️ Inhibits motor development: The SNOO’s constant motion and restraint may reduce opportunities for micro-movements, delaying core strength and coordination development.
➡️ Decreased body movement > increased risk for torticollis and plagiocephaly: babies need to move their trunk.. this influences head movement. They need to develop core strength to be able to move the head and neck well!
➡️ Possible impact on bonding: for many parents this isn't an issue, but for some it will be. Those middle of the night connections matter. Again, no judgment. At all. But it's possible.
➡️ Missed cues: With the Snoo's constant motion and restraint the baby can miss their own cues of hunger, discomfort, and need for closeness.
➡️ Inhibits sensory development/processing: Constant motion and white noise alters a baby’s ability to self-soothe in a natural environment. This could contribute to sensory processing difficulties later on, as the baby becomes accustomed to artificial soothing rather than self-regulation.

This magical baby item was on my wishlist long before I was pregnant and yes it does live up to the hype! The automatic white noise and motion helped to settle baby quickly so we didn’t have to spend all night rocking him in our arms. Baby felt cozy and snug swaddled up in his Snoo Sack, and I loved knowing the special wings kept him safely on his back all night. The app was also great to track his sleep and I used it to track feeds and pumping too.

My only regret is not getting this chair earlier, it would be amazing for pregnancy - especially in those last few weeks when lying down is uncomfy. We chose to keep the chair in our room so we could use it for night feeds. Feeding him on the bed was breaaaaking my back. Also great to burp him on as the newborn burp can take forever and a day 😂

Comes in a range of colours, is soft yet sturdy, I didn’t want a mat that would easily slide around. The raised edges are a pgreat now that he’s become wrigglier and is super easy to clean, we just use disinfectant wipes on it!

As a first time mum the TOG anxiety is real! I saved so many posts and graphs for how to dress baby for different temperatures and being worried that he was too hot or cold. This genius invention is a room thermometer, recommends what layers to dress your baby in and also doubles as a night light! The colours indicate the temperature. Would make the perfect baby shower gift!

BRDon’t have me but the Snoo bassinet (that’s $1500 btw) is not something I like or recommend 🙅🏻♀️
While some see it as an opportunity to get more sleep, I see it as a way to ignore your baby’s cues and potentially delay gross motor development.
