have you tried this?? ❄️ i’m pretty sure this is how my grandma would do it, because this is actually an old nordic tradition. before washing machines, snow was used to clean wool blankets and sweaters in winter. when you use snow on wool, the cold helps tighten the fibers slightly and lifts dirt and bad smells without stressing the knit. it can also help the sweater hold its shape again 🦋 wool often doesn’t need to be washed at all, but this is a very gentle way to refresh it: - use clean, dry snow - lay the sweater flat or gently press snow into it - shake it out well - dry it flat did you know? :) 💛

Schneewäsche Kleidung und Produkte aus Wolle reinigen sich selbst durch lüften. Häufiges waschen mögen sie nicht. Das Wolle sich wirklich selbst reinigt, ist keine Magie und auch kein Mythos. Wolle besteht aus zwei unterschiedlichen Fasern, die fest miteinander verbunden sind. Sie quellen bei Feuchtigkeitsaufnahme unterschiedlich stark auf. Dadurch wird Schmutz abgestoßen. Wolle nachts, wenn es feucht ist, raushängen zum lüften reicht meist schon aus. Wenn sie mal noch MEHR gewaschen sein will, kann man die Sachen auch in sauberen Schnee legen. Schnee liefert Feuchtigkeit aber eben nicht zu viel. Das geht mit Kleidung, Windeln, Decken, Fellen und Teppichen auch. Lass deine Wollsachen draußen erst kalt werden (dann bleibt nicht so viel Schnee dran kleben) und lege sie dann mindestens 60 Minuten (oder über Nacht wenn das Wetter hält) in den Schnee. Gut ausschütteln. Trocken. Sauber. Weil so viele gefragt haben: es hilft nicht gegen Motten. Die Eier brauchen 48 Stunden Frost um abzusterben. Hättet ihr euch getraut? 🤭☃️❄️🧶 Wolle lässt sich schonend mit Schnee reinigen, da die Kälte Schmutz löst und das natürliche Lanolin in der Wolle erhält. Kann man mit Pullover, Decken & Teppichen machen. Besonders in den 1970er- bis 1990er-Jahren war diese Tradition weit verbreitet. In kalten Gebieten wie Finnland oder den Alpenregionen nennt man das „Snow Washing”. #knitter #snowwash #snow #knitting

You wanted to see what else you can wash + a look at the snow after, I save that shot for the end 😅 -in my experience, freshening up all of my wool/cashmere items works wonderfully this way! -I loved hearing about how you (and your grandparents!) do this in your home countries too! -if you have some serious staining or icky stuff on your rugs/clothing- this isn’t going to cut it! I can share about how we wash wooly items in a more conventional way when there isn’t snow or they need a deeper clean, just let me know if you’d like to see that!
