MTYa'll asked if the 2026 Solterra could rally, so our friends at @subaru_usa brought us out to CA to check it out.
I'll be honest, I was a little skeptical that an all-electric vehicle could address my off-road capability needs, but I may be wrong! This car was fun to drive both on and offroad.
With up to 338 horsepower, it certainly has the spunk to make driving fun! With best in class clearance, it's less than 1/2" shorter than the Crosstrek and Outback. Subaru's symmetrical AWD features shine with the addition of Grip Control, an offroad cruise control function, and dual X-Mode that helps tackle some of the key challenges.
The huge moonroof gives you a stunning view, perfect when you're adventuring and want to catch that view of the mountains. And I didn't mind that funny shaped steering wheel either. 😅
With 25% more range and faster charging for 2026, the Solterra surprised me at how much range we still had left after putting it to the test on the off-road course and driving around Malibu for the afternoon.
All in all, my curiosity is piqued in this platform even more now that I know it can hold its own offroad. Though we didn't get a chance to rally, it certainly has spunk and capability, while maintaining an elegant on-road personality. I left CA wanting more time behind the wheel.

We still would like to see a more practical interior or range more north of 300 miles, but the Solterra is no longer an overlook EV.
