Sony Pictures chose to restart the series to retain film rights to the character. The casting process for Peter Parker included several actors reportedly tested or considered, including Josh Hutcherson, Logan Lerman, Jamie Bell, Alden Ehrenreich, and Andrew Garfield. Garfield ultimately secured the role after screen tests and meetings with Webb, who cited his balance of vulnerability and intensity as key factors. Emma Stone was cast as Gwen Stacy, marking the first live-action portrayal of the character as Peter Parker’s primary love interest. Rhys Ifans was cast as Dr. Curt Connors, later transforming into the Lizard. Principal photography began in December 2010 and continued into mid-2011, with filming locations in Los Angeles and New York City. The production emphasized practical stunts alongside CGI, and the suit design was altered to feature mechanical web-shooters, aligning more closely with the original Marvel Comics depiction.
