Fresh is best. This piper made the mistake of swimming into the back of the boat early in the morning… so it became prime bait. Rigged on 6/0 @blackmagictackle hooks, double hook setup, half hitch on the tail, then sent out the back of the boat on a strayline. No snapper this time — the sea lice got there first and cleaned it out — but fresh piper like this have accounted for plenty of good fish for me over the years. Another night out on the town, but lastnight was a testing long night, I chose to stick it out, re bait, no bites, re bait again and again, carry on and enjoy it. Embrace the howling wind and salt spray. I decided to change from pilchards and just throw some occy out and sit on it as long as it takes, hunting down that 60-70cm Landbased snapper, which is proving to be alot harder than just throwing some occy out there. In this neck of the woods anything over 50cm is a real good fish which doesn’t come around everyday. #bayofplentynz #nzsurfcasting #sunline_japan #TiCA @kilwellsports @snappercandys
