Adding this recipe to the blog is something I’ve been procrastinating for years 😅 So I’m so excited to tell you guys that my string hoppers recipe is finally live on my blog right now. Our favourite — Idiyappam (String Hoppers) — just got way easier to make ! I used the electric string hopper machine from @summer_snooow and it’s honestly a total game changer.No more hand pressing or sore arms — just load the dough, press the button, and it neatly pipes out perfect idiyappam in seconds! Here’s how I made them: 👇🏽 Idiyappam Recipe: Ingredients: 📌3 cups rice flour 📌1½ tsp salt 📌Hot water (as needed) Method: 1️⃣Add the rice flour and salt into a bowl. 2️⃣Mix well and gradually add hot water. 3️⃣Stir well with a wooden spoon and Knead into a smooth, soft dough. 4️⃣Load the dough into the electric string hopper machine. 5️⃣Press the button and pipe onto idiyappam mats. 6️⃣Steam for 10 minutes until soft and cooked. Idiyappam Recipe 🌼 Double Horse Easy Idiyappam flour has been my preferred choice for a long time. It gives me perfect idiyappams every time. Just mix the flour with room temperature water – no need to boil water! Easy peasy, perfect idiyappams every time. #notpaidpromotion Tips ✅ Use any Brass Idiyappam Press which has the smallest jaali with small holes. This gives tiny strings ✅ Once cooked, allow the Idiyappam to cool (less than a minute) in the idli plate and then demould. Do not leave the Idiyappam on the plate for a long time, it will become hard 🔸Double Horse Easy Idiyappam Flour 1 cup 🔸Normal Room temperature water -1 cup 🔸Salt 🔸Coconut oil to grease the plate 🔸Grated coconut 1. In a bowl, add Idiyappam flour and salt. Mix well 2. Add 1 cup water (room temp water) and mix well 3. Knead well and keep aside 4. Grease the idli plate and add grated coconut 5. Press the dough on the idli plate 6. Steam for 5-8 minutes 7. Remove from the steamer and let us cook (less than a minute) 8. She wanted to try it.So here it is as a recipe for you all too.This is basically string hoppers with Sri Lankan curries but in a different shape.I don’t have a specific name for it. You may suggest one for me. Ingredients (5) - String hopper flour | ඉදි ආප්ප පිටි 100g - Water | වතුර 100ml-120ml (or as needed) - Salt | ලුණු 1/4 tsp (per taste) For the filling (use anything you want) - Pol sambol | පොල් සම්බෝල - Cooked fish | උයාගත් මාළු (left over fish) - Some gravy to dip in Method, - Mix the flour , salt and water (add little by little)together and make a non sticky dough(mixture).I didn’t make a dough shape. And thats okay. Mix thoroughly. Don’t add water at once. Add little by little. - Use a banana leaf or a kendha leaf.Apply some oil on it.Then pour the flour mixture just like we make string hoppers. - Fill the center with the filling,fold the banana/kenda leaf over to encase the filling, like a parcel. Seal properly from the corners too. - Then steam them for about 10-12 minutes or until well cooked. - You might need some gravy to dip in.
