COWhen I got married in 2017, Instagram wasn’t as big of an influence as it is right now but Pinterest and wedding blogs like Style Me Pretty had a chokehold on the industry.
There was a lot of pressure to have a wedding that looked a certain way, cost a certain amount, gave a certain experience.
Here’s what I can tell you that we did absolutely right and I would do again.
1. Inviting our large group of friends and family.
We invited 175 people even though our venue only held 125 and ended up with around 115.
That’s a pretty average sized wedding in the US. But I know a lot of folks who had 250-300 person weddings so it seemed small at the time.
In the end this was a perfect size and I wouldn’t go back and elope or have a smaller wedding that was missing anyone.
Friends and family still talk about my wedding to this day and share memories from it.
If I were to change anything I would’ve invited even more folks that I left off because we were worried we would be over the max capacity.
2. Focusing on having a fun wedding and prioritizing our guests having a good time.
We could’ve saved money on things like food, drinks, atmosphere, shuttle buses, etc. but I’m glad that we chose to save elsewhere and instead gave our friends and family a good time.
I especially loved the extra touches we did like hiring a piano player for the cocktail hour and setting up lawn games (including our giant Jenga guestbook!) that at the time seemed “unnecessary” but in reality added so much color and personality and fun to the event.
3. Hiring our dream photographer
Fine art style was ALL the rage back then and I still honestly love it. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My photos look so timeless. The posing and composition that emulates fine art paintings looks stunning framed in my home even after eight years and multiple kids. I can’t wait for the style to make a comeback because it’s truly so elegant and stands the test of time.
If you’re getting married this year, I would apply this as you should hire your dream vendors wherever that is for you - florist, planner, stationery designer.

BEThe fact that I did this STILL shocks me.
I’ve seen my work on Style Me Pretty, BRIDES, Martha Stewart Weddings, in magazines, in stationery stores, and online.
And every time I think to myself, “Wow, I really did do that.”
I’m eternally grateful that I ever had the courage to take a leap of faith, bet on myself, and start my own business.
I started with zero following, zero connections, and zero experience with how to do all of this.
Isn’t it kinda crazy how we can forget how far we’ve come? Just that one decision to start a business really changed everything for me.
But, I’m not sharing all of this to brag or even to celebrate my accomplishments.
I’m sharing all of this because I want you to know that I’m not a special snowflake.

FUDid anyone see my real wedding feature on @stylemepretty this month!??? Because it’s THERE!!!!!!

This feels like a really big honor & a HUGE personal accomplishment. About 10 years ago (when I moved to Arizona from Illinois and had to restart my business), I desperately wanted to be picked up as a Little Black Book member on Style Me Pretty. (It’s their exclusive list of vetted vendors they vet, trust & recommend.) I remember when I applied I was denied and I totally cried for a week. LOL.

But then, the craziest thing happened. Most of my weddings canceled in 2020 due to Covid cancellations BUTTTT I launched my branding agency and my branding work took off so much that I stopped promoting weddings and doing bridal shows. I didn’t need them anymore.

And now in 2025, out of nowhere, Style Me Pretty personally reached out & invited me to join this year based on seeing my website. 😆
.
At first, I wondered, Should I even do this? (seeing as I haven’t been super active with weddings lately what’s the point?) But then I thought… why not fulfill 10-year-ago Tracy’s dream??? It’s not about anything other than fulfilling that goal!

So here I am—officially a Style Me Pretty Little Black Book member & they published one of my weddings 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

Sooo Yes, I still shoot weddings, y’all! 18 years of experience, 300+ weddings under my belt…I don’t NEED to do it anymore, but I absolutely love all the love!!! So recommend away! I offer micro weddings, and all inclusive packages with both digital & film (like this featured wedding).

WEFeels like forever!
I started in 2010 before Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok. I started when chevron table runners and burlap tied mason jars were all the rage! I started when Style Me Pretty was the planning bible and no one believed wedding planning was a true profession.
So much has changed and I’ve seen it all. It’s been such a wild ride and I am so happy that I have somehow made it through, continuing to book the most amazing clients, work with the best teams and produce work that makes a lasting impression.
Looking forward to another year and what magic we get to be a part of next!
