It responds to anticipation — the cue → routine → reward loop (described by researchers like Charles Duhigg in The Power of Habit). Brushing works because it disrupts the cue. Menthol activates TRPM8 receptors — cold-sensitive channels in the mouth — altering taste perception and temporarily reducing the reward value of sweet foods. This sensory interference reduces the expected dopamine payoff. But here’s the deeper layer 👇 Research in neurobiology shows that dopamine spikes more in anticipation than in consumption. That “just one more square/slice” moment that turns into a blood sugar rollercoaster 🎢 ✨Here’s what I do to keep my sugar cravings under control (without feeling deprived) 🍫1. Ditch the snacks between meals. Constant grazing keeps insulin levels high and keeps your body hooked on sugar. Let your blood sugar settle. You don’t need a snack if your meals are properly balanced. 🍳 2. Start your day with a savoury, protein-rich breakfast. Eggs, , veggies (fibre) a sprinkle of seeds – healthy fats and protein keep you full and stop those sugar cravings from creeping in mid-morning. 🚫 3. Clear out the ‘treat drawer’. If it’s not there, you can’t eat it! Stock up on smart alternatives: Nuts & seeds Nut butters (without added sugar!) Blueberries, dates, and pomegranate seed 👣 4. Walk it out! A brisk 10-minute walk after meals helps your body use up the glucose in your blood rather than storing it as fat.
