MAA lot of people ask me how I could choose to be a surrogate..🤍
For me, the answer is simple—I’ve been blessed with healthy pregnancies, and I actually love the journey that comes with them. From that very first positive test, to seeing the baby grow on ultrasounds, to feeling the bump—those milestones are so special to me. ✨
So when I realized I could take something I already love and use it to help someone else’s dream come true, it just felt right. 🫶

Out of state vs local surrogacy journeys can look a little different—we have experienced both. With my sons surrogate, I made the trip for the anatomy scan and to take maternity pics 🥰
We knew she tended to deliver around ~38 weeks so we planned to get to Dallas a few days before 38wks and wait it out. The day before we planned to make the trip, she went into labor and delivered while we were still driving 😅
Some parents plan for a scheduled induction or c-section to avoid this (and will even put that into the contract). Having someone local is ideal, however, personality and a perfect match trumps location imo.
In the moment, ofc I was upset. But a safe and healthy delivery for both your baby and surrogate is all you can ask for 🙏🏻 and if that’s the only thing that didn’t go as planned for the entire pregnancy and delivery, I’ll take it ✨

TH2 years later, we still get asked this question on a daily basis. We both created embryos at same time via IVF with our egg donor meaning our children have the same egg donor and are genetically related 🏳️🌈

✨Social Media✨ Intended Parents, are you okay with your surrogate naming you? Potentially ‘announcing’ before you do? Surrogates are you planning to share birth photos, baby photos, etc? Sharing on social media platforms can offer a sense of documentation and community throughout your journey but don’t lose sight of the goal here… Respecting varying levels of online privacy between intended parents and surrogates is a healthy boundary everyone should discuss long before go time.
✨Induction✨ Scheduling inductions in *any* pregnancy has become exceedingly common and in surrogacy journeys, even more so. For parents, induction might offer a huge logistical aid in making it to the birth of their baby. For surrogates, induction might not align with your preferences for your birth and body. When issues arise, an unbiased party to help hear both sides out is a must, but jumping ahead of this one by communicating openly in advance is even better.
✨Pumping✨ It might feel uncomfortable for parents to probe into their surrogates plans to pump or not when so much has been asked of them already. Perhaps your surrogate is planning to pump either way but doesn’t want to feel like she’s forcing your hand. Perhaps your IP would love to receive milk but only for a short period of time making it potentially not feel “worth” it for you to deal with supply, milk coming in, etc. Plans around this one change often, but keeping an open dialogue will help the postpartum period go smoother for you all ✨

➡️ FACT: All pregnancy-related expenses, including medical care, are fully covered, and surrogates receive compensation for their time and commitment.
MYTH 5: “You’re on your own once you say yes.”
➡️ FACT: Surrogates receive legal, medical, and emotional support from start to finish. You are guided through every stage of the journey.
MYTH 6: “Only ‘perfect’ women qualify.”
➡️ FACT: What matters most is having had a healthy pregnancy and delivery before; not being ‘perfect.’
✨ Surrogacy is about compassion, strength, and support, not myths.

MIThe announcement they didn’t know was coming 👶🏻 Wait for it… the delay 😂
We hadn’t necessarily planned to tell our families so soon. Honestly, we felt very cautious but optimistic at first. Knowing that the rate of success for an embryo transfer to actually stick and stay and grow correctly can be close to a 50/50 chance. It’s a super complex process and within those first few weeks, we felt like we were walking on eggshells trying not to get TOO excited in the chance we’d get ahead of ourselves and wind up heartbroken.
Even here, when our little baby just reached 8 weeks, we wondered—do we say anything to our families yet? What if what if what if! 😅 But, since it was Christmas, and knowing this would be the only time we’d have most of our South Dakota family all in one place, it was the only time we could tell everyone in person before we headed back home to Oregon.
I can see the caution still in our faces - like, oh my god I’m so excited but I’m also so incredibly nervous. I could feel myself shaking! Looking back, I am so so so happy we decided to do this.
The support and love from our family in this moment meant everything. This is what family is for. 🤍
