💪Do you work with women who want to weight lift during their pregnancy, who want to exercise supine, understand more about the valsalva manoeuvre? Guidance around these areas amongst others is grey
💪BUT there is data emerging in these areas of uncertainty. In 2022 @christina_prevett et al carried out a study. The aim was to examine whether women who continued to participate in heavy resistance training during pregnancy were at an increased risk for potential harmful birth outcomes, adverse fetal outcomes, or pelvic floor dysfunction.
💪Head to Christina’s paper and account to find out more but In a nutshell they did not identify evidence of adverse pregnancy or delivery outcomes by engaging in heavy weightlifting, Olympic weightlifting, Valsalva maneuver, or supine weightlifting during pregnancy 🙌🏻. In fact, a lower prevalence of common perinatal complications in pregnant and post- partum individuals was observed, with those who continued participation until delivery experiencing fewer complications than those who did not.
💪More studies are needed to draw firm conclusions about heavy resistance training, address concerns of prolonged supine exercise and overhead Olympic weightlifting but their findings are exciting!

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a condition at the extreme end of the pregnancy sickness spectrum. It affects approximately 3% of pregnancies and is very debilitating for sufferers. HG strongly limits everyday activities; vomiting and/or nausea are severe. Ria’s reel is the smallest window into the true impact physical and mental of HG!
