I found the real Dave Cousins in Vegas. For those who don’t know, Dave was one of the pioneering pros of modern-day compound target archery. Since we’re both from the Northeast, I remember growing up watching him shoot unimaginable scores—he was a huge inspiration to me. Over the last several years, I’ve always made it a point to catch up with him and see how things are going. It was awesome to spend some time with him and get some Road to 30X advice! Turns out, if you’re a real pro, you shoot so many 30X’s that you don’t even keep track… Thank you Dave for what will be a great segment in Day 22’s Video!

One of the biggest take away I’ve gotten from starting my target archery journey is that the little things count. Before I had the attitude of that’s close enough, or that will work. But when I started trying to hit a penny sized ring close enough doesn’t cut it. You need to have your equipment dialed in tight. Which has now transitioned into my hunting set up. Never thought target archery matter at all, but after a few weeks I can tell it’s going to make me a better archer and bowhunter! #bowhunting #dartonarchery #hotshotarchery #bowhuntinglife #targetarchery

Update from Team Member Casey Christman, @americanarchercc from Louisville! “Over the last two winters I’ve started shooting a couple local tournaments during the winter after deer season comes to a close. This year one of my employees and I decided to run down to Louisville and partake in the @nfaausa Indoor National tournament. I elected to shoot the Freestyle Bowhunter Division. Day 1 went well overall but I dropped a single point the second end and ended up shooting 299/300. Going into day 2, I was holding fairly high expectations for myself. That quickly changed as on the first scoring end I had a pretty big equipment issue. Recently, I had been tinkering with my sight and apparently hadn’t tightened down both 3rd axis screws enough. Every shot, my sight slightly shifted so I spent the next four scoring ends (20 arrows) guessing at where I needed to hold. I managed to keep most of my arrows in the center but finished significantly lower than I had originally hoped. I ended day 2 with a 294/300 and two day total of 593-85X. This being by far the largest tournament I have partaken in, I learned a TON. Had a blast with several friends and my family there supporting me. I’m 100% positive (at least for me) that target archery makes me a better archer and hunter when the season rolls around. If y’all haven’t… you should give spot target archery a go during the off season!
