When working with relaxed hair that has Accumulated length it’s cool to go back to “ traditional” wet sets just to switch it up and take a break from the blow drying . It might be big and luscious at first but the curls and body will drop leaving a plumpness to the hair that will appear full and healthy. Once the set has dried I will reinforce the root area with heat just to relax the parts left by the rollers. Color Transformation Part 2: Dionne’s Reveal After our consultation in Part 1 ( see previous post ), we decided to land in a tone that would feel modern, intentional, and flattering with her natural grey. I chose Moroccanoil Color Calypso Demi-Permanent Gloss in 10BG for her final tone. The idea was to introduce a touch of warmth through the gold while still keeping that soft cool influence from the blue in the formula. This combination prevents the blonde from reading overly white or “silver fox,” which can sometimes unintentionally age the look depending on the wearer. Instead, the gold brings life and intention to the color so the blonde feels vibrant, dimensional, and modern. I also intentionally used a demi-permanent gloss so Dionne could live in this tone for a moment and really see how she feels about it. If later she decides she wants to lean further into a platinum / grey-white direction, it will be very easy to transition her there. This way she truly gets the best of both worlds. Interestingly, the blue-gold combination actually lands right in between the two inspiration photos she brought in, one being a high-lift ash blonde and the other a cooler grey-platinum blonde. So this tone becomes the perfect bridge between the two ideas. Because at the end of the day, the goal of any transformation is simple: to create a look that helps you move through life feeling good, confident, and aligned with where you are right now. She actually cut her hair herself, but came in looking to have the shape refined professionally and to explore what we could do with the color. She brought in a couple inspiration photos, both blonde, but very different in tone and feeling. During the consultation we talked about her relationship with her grey, her lifestyle, and the overall direction she wanted to go.
