There were so many highlights from the debate, including: ⭐ Helen spotlighting BookTrust’s research into how sharing stories can support bonding and attachment - but also the challenges facing parents and families ⭐ @carolinevoadenmp drawing from our overview of the benefits of reading to share its impact on social mobility ⭐ Minister for Early Education @obaileymp saying that meeting our Patron Her Majesty The Queen and Peter Rabbit at our centenary celebration was one of her favourite days in the job so far! Shared reading has so many immediate and lifelong benefits for children and we’re grateful to all the MPs who attended this debate for recognising just how important it is that we support families to share stories together. The evening brought together some of the literary world’s most celebrated voices, whose support has helped the charity reach book lovers in more than 180 countries. Her Majesty presented the National Reading Hero Medal to Selina Brown, founder of the Black British Book Festival, Europe’s largest celebration of Black literature. The Local Reading Hero Medal was presented to Liz Waterland in recognition of her dedication to Deepings Community Library in Lincolnshire.
