Building relationships one visit at a time. Our deputies check in with Downtown Encinitas businesses every month. This strengthens trust and connection, and is the true meaning of Community Oriented Policing.

🔴 Caught on video. 🔴 Local business hit by a burglar. While alarming to see, here’s what the data shows: deputy activity is up, and crime in Encinitas is trending down. Good progress. Frustrating day. Woke up to reports of ICE activity in Encinitas this morning and spent much of the day trying to piece together information from residents. When federal immigration enforcement drops into our community like this, it creates confusion and erodes trust in the local law enforcement officers who actually serve Encinitas every day. That’s not fair to our community or to them. Our city leaders need to step up and support local law enforcement on this issue.

The nonprofit First to Serve ran 423 of the city’s 500 shelter beds until Tuesday. Long Beach is now investigating First to Serve — and has been for months — according to Deputy City Attorney Nicholas Masero. It’s unclear if that investigation could result in the city pursuing criminal or civil charges. Masero said that “we’ll make that determination as the investigations progress.” Read the full story at the link in bio.

We Are The Change remains committed to bringing the community together to make things happen. Since day one, we have been about less talk and more action, and our law enforcement community has been boots on the ground with us from the start. They have always supported the efforts by joining our cleanups, providing additional safety at SB Foodfest, and showing that we are all in this together. Thank you @supervisorbaca for continuing to support our local police department @sanbernardino_pd and helping to make sure they can continue doing the hard work in protecting us all. We know their job isn't easy, and we do not take for granted the great efforts they have made in helping to change San Bernardino for the better. Lowest crime stats in over twenty years! Let us all continue to work together to help San Bernardino become great! Remember, WE ARE THE CHANGE 💪🏼

On Thursday, members of the Orange City Fire Department had the honor of escorting Battalion Chief Scott Conniff from the Coroner’s Office to the mortuary in Oceanside. Along the route, we were met with an incredible show of respect and solidarity from our brothers and sisters in the San Diego North Zone. Fire apparatus from Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, Encinitas Fire Department, Carlsbad Fire Department, Vista Fire Department, San Marcos Fire Department, and Oceanside Fire Department, along with the Oceanside Lifeguard Division, lined the overpasses from San Diego to Oceanside to honor Scott’s service and life. The @cityoforangepd escorted our procession the entire way, a powerful reminder that the City of Orange is a close-knit public safety family. We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with our law enforcement partners, especially during moments that matter most. We are also deeply grateful to @newportbeachfd and @anaheimfireandrescue, who covered our stations in Orange so our members could be present to support the Conniff family during this difficult time. Moments like these remind us that the fire service is more than a profession, it is a family that shows up for one another. Funeral arrangements and additional information will be shared as they become available. 🇺🇸 Family • Pride • Tradition

A local Encinitas resident and mother spoke out against ICE at last night’s council meeting. She reminded us all of the deep emotional impact of ICE on our community’s families and children, and how these are not dangerous criminals, but our friends and neighbors. #encinitas #encinitaslife

Hey santa Monica! Your weekly update: Public safety: SMPD is actively investigating the fatal shooting that happened near 4th and Olympic around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night. According to the city, it appears the incident began as an altercation between two vehicles before the shooting. This remains an active investigation. More broadly, the latest weekly police numbers showed 2,573 calls for service and 118 arrests, with year to date arrests up 79.4% compared with the same time last year, according to the City Manager update shared with Council. Homelessness: outreach continues every day. One recent example was a Project Homecoming reunification that helped connect a newly homeless individual with family support out of state. The city’s C3 and HMST teams are continuing the work of outreach, service connection, interim housing, and permanent housing placement based on the weekly update shared with Council. Economic recovery: one thing I am especially glad to see moving forward is ARCHISTAR, which is being adopted to help streamline permitting and speed up tenant improvement review. This is exactly the kind of practical step that cuts red tape, saves time and money, and makes it easier for businesses to open and invest here. We are also continuing to see new businesses come in, including Summer Pilates on Montana, Chi Trainer on Main Street, The Pilates Cave on Pico, and Triplebar relocating to Santa Monica. And tonight I’ll be at the Viceroy for a free event alongside Traci Park and Veronica Pugin from LAEDC, in a conversation led by Michelle Edgar and Community Collective, talking about what modern leadership looks like and how collaboration across cities helps get more done. Come and connect with me!

Santa Monica is carrying more than its fair share and the numbers back it up. This week: Over 2,600 police calls 105 arrests Over 1,000 arrests year to date About 20 percent tied to homelessness We are seeing both sides at once. High activity and stronger enforcement. But we also need to be honest about what’s driving this. We are the end of the Metro line. We are a beach city with year-round weather. And we operate in a state with policies that often lean more lenient. What happens outside our city does not stay outside our city. It shows up here. Tomorrow night’s Council meeting matters. We are discussing the next phase of our homelessness response, public safety, and economic recovery. For me, this is about outcomes: Real help for people Addressing root causes And being honest about what our city can and cannot absorb We are also seeing movement: New businesses opening Efforts to make it easier to do business Infrastructure improvements across the city These steps may feel small now, but they add up. Council meets Tuesday at 5:30 PM and I’ll keep breaking it down in plain English.
